Position Summary The Senior Director of Finance and Administration is a senior leadership role responsible for both the strategic direction and day‑to‑day oversight of the organization’s finance, administrative, and people management operations.

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position serves as the organization’s senior finance and administrative leader and is accountable for the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all financial, administrative, and operational activities.

This role ensures the organization’s financial health, operational effectiveness, and regulatory compliance while supporting its mission and long‑term sustainability. The Senior Director partners closely with the Executive Director to support sound decision‑making, organizational growth, effective stewardship of resources, and fulfillment of nonprofit fiduciary responsibilities.

Candidate Summary The ideal candidate brings significant nonprofit sector experience and a strategic, engaged leadership approach, with the ability to supervise, guide, and, when needed, directly execute financial, administrative, and operational (including HR) functions.

They possess strong finance expertise, senior‑level nonprofit experience, sound judgment, and a collaborative, proactive leadership style. The candidate demonstrates effective decision‑making and the ability to manage complex, multi‑entity operations in alignment with and promoting agency standards.

Core Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy

Work closely with the Executive Director on strategic financial planning, leading budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring.

Monitor financial performance and ensure compliance with grant, donor, and regulatory requirements, including multi‑source funding.

Provide actionable financial insights and guidance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors to support strategic decision‑making.

Finance & Operational Oversight

Oversee accounting, internal controls, audits, tax filings, and financial reporting, with the ability to directly engage in key processes when needed.

Ensure effective systems, policies, and practices for finance, HR, and administrative operations.

Step in to actively support functions such as payroll, reconciliations, grant compliance, or reporting to maintain accuracy and continuity.

Leadership & Team Management

Lead, mentor, and develop finance, HR, and administrative staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Balance delegation with active participation, maintaining detailed knowledge of financial, operational, and HR workflows.

Cross‑Functional Support & Organizational Impact

Partner across departments to support program operations, budget and grants management, and organizational initiatives.

Ensure operational continuity and organizational resilience during transitions, peak workloads, or system implementations.

Qualifications & Skills Education & Professional Credentials

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

Professional certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) with demonstrated expertise preferred.

Experience & Expertise

Minimum of 7–10 years of progressively responsible senior‑level experience in the nonprofit sector, with demonstrated leadership in finance and administration.

Strong technical finance expertise, including multi‑source funding management and compliance, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and in‑depth knowledge of accounting principles.

Knowledge of nonprofit compliance, contracts, and human resources management.

Experience working with Boards of Directors and Board Finance and/or Audit Committees.

Experience selecting, implementing, and leveraging financial and administrative technology systems (e.g., QuickBooks, etc), data analysis tools, and cloud‑based platforms.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.

Leadership & Decision‑Making

Self‑directed and collaborative leadership style, demonstrating sound judgment, effective decision‑making, and the ability to manage complex, multi‑entity operations in alignment with—and modeling—agency standards.

Strong leadership skills managing teams, collaborating across departments, and driving organizational success.

Ability to meet required state, federal, local, and CDC standards (including fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, First Aid, CPR, and other relevant certifications).

Work Environment This position operates in a professional office environment with Pre‑K and Afterschool Programs on site. Work is scheduled weekdays, Monday‑Friday, with occasional evening/weekend work to support community events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and crouch. The employee must lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and, on occasion, may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. This job requires extended periods of time at a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
