Overview
Job Title: Superintendent of Construction
An established commercial construction contractor is seeking an experienced Commercial Plumbing Superintendent to oversee field operations on large-scale commercial projects throughout the Durham and Triangle area. This role is ideal for a seasoned plumbing professional with strong leadership experience who can manage crews, coordinate with other trades, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. The Superintendent will serve as the primary on-site leader for plumbing operations from rough-in through project completion.
Responsibilities
Supervise and lead journeyman plumbers and apprentices on commercial job sites.
Assign daily work activities and monitor productivity and job-site performance.
Provide hands-on leadership while maintaining accountability for safety and quality.
Project, interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
Plan work sequences and ensure plumbing installations meet project schedules.
Perform material takeoffs and coordinate required materials and equipment.
Work closely with general contractors, project managers, and other trades.
Resolve field issues, scheduling conflicts, and constructability challenges.
Maintain clear communication to keep projects moving efficiently.
Ensure all plumbing work meets code requirements and project specifications.
Enforce job-site safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Conduct ongoing quality checks throughout the installation process.
Essential Skills
7+ years of commercial plumbing experience.
Proven experience leading plumbing crews on commercial projects ranging from $500K–$2M.
Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems and applicable codes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Reliable, organized, and capable of managing field operations independently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in plumbing, commercial construction, and construction management.
Work Environment The role involves working on large-scale commercial construction projects in the Durham and Triangle area. The Superintendent will engage in field leadership, coordinating with various trades, and ensuring a safe and organized job site. The environment requires adherence to safety standards and effective communication with team members and other stakeholders.
Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Durham, NC.
Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $75,000.00 - $90,000.00/yr. Health, Dental, Vision; Truck, Gas Card; 401K Match.
Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Durham, NC.
