Job Description Overview

Insight Global is searching for a Principal Estimator who will play a critical role in building and leading a strategic estimating function supporting large‑scale utility transmission and substation projects. This role is responsible for the highest level of estimating work, including major capital projects, competitive bids, and complex portfolios. The Principal Estimator will act as a technical expert and thought leader, partnering closely with engineering, construction, project management, vendors, and senior leadership. The team operates in a highly collaborative, flat organizational structure and places a strong emphasis on ownership, continuous improvement, and innovation. This individual will help protect the capital plan by developing defensible, risk‑adjusted estimates—not just unit pricing—and by driving consistency and rigor across estimating practices. Qualifications

10+ years in utility, construction, engineering, or commercial estimating, with demonstrated ownership of large, complex capital projects. Strong transmission and utility estimating experience, including substations, overhead and/or underground infrastructure Bid evaluation skills, including developing estimates, reviewing vendor bids, and advanced cost analysis using Excel Proven ability to take ownership, operate independently, and represent the estimating function directly with vendors and senior leadership. Professional Engineering (PE) license or engineering degree (civil or electrical preferred) Experience with FERC 1000 projects, competitive RFPs, or high‑stakes commercial bids Background in field engineering, construction, or project management in addition to estimating Experience driving process improvement, standardization, or innovation within an estimating organization
