Superintendent High Voltage Electrical Substation Remodeling Project
The Job Site Superintendent Substation Projects is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day construction activities of electrical substation projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality standards. This role serves as the on-site leader responsible for coordinating craft labor, subcontractors, and field personnel while maintaining strong communication with project management, engineering teams, and clients. The superintendent ensures compliance with safety regulations, construction standards, and project requirements throughout all phases of substation construction. The ideal candidate has strong experience in electrical substation construction, including civil, structural, electrical installation, and commissioning support, along with demonstrated leadership in managing field crews and complex infrastructure projects. What You'll Do
Field Leadership & Site Management Oversee daily field operations for electrical substation construction projects including site preparation, foundations, steel erection, equipment installation, and electrical work. Lead and coordinate craft labor, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure safe and efficient project execution. Maintain active presence in the field to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to project plans and specifications. Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and inspectors to ensure work aligns with project scope and schedule. Construction Execution Manage installation of substation equipment including transformers, breakers, switches, bus structures, grounding systems, conduit systems, and control buildings. Ensure proper sequencing of civil, structural, and electrical work activities. Review drawings, specifications, and work packages to ensure field execution meets engineering requirements. Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities. Safety & Compliance Promote and enforce a strong safety culture consistent with company and client safety standards. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, project safety plans, and company safety procedures. Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety inspections. Address and report safety incidents, near misses, and corrective actions. Schedule & Productivity Management Monitor daily production and ensure work is progressing according to the project schedule. Coordinate manpower and equipment needs to meet project milestones. Identify potential delays and proactively work with project leadership to mitigate risks. Quality Assurance Ensure all work meets project specifications, codes, and quality standards. Coordinate inspections and testing requirements. Review subcontractor work for compliance with drawings and specifications. Communication & Reporting Maintain regular communication with project management regarding field progress, schedule updates, and potential risks. Prepare daily reports documenting project activities, manpower, and production. Participate in project meetings with clients, engineers, and stakeholders. What You'll Bring
Required Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or construction-related education preferred. 710+ years of construction experience with at least 35 years supervising electrical or substation construction projects. Demonstrated experience with high-voltage electrical substation construction. Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and field crews. Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, electrical schematics, and project specifications. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Education and Experience Experience with utility, power transmission, or government infrastructure projects. Experience working on substations ranging from 69kV to 500kV. Familiarity with NERC, IEEE, and utility construction standards. Experience working within EPC or large infrastructure contractor environments. Licenses / Certifications Required Valid driver's license Preferred OSHA 30 Certification First Aid / CPR Certification Electrical safety training (NFPA 70E) Supervisory Responsibilities Provides direct oversight of field crews, subcontractors, and craft personnel on assigned projects.
