GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Responsible for ensuring a clean and safe park for users and guests, enforcing park policies and rules, reporting and monitoring hazardous conditions, reporting suspicious activity to the appropriate agencies, and providing general customer service at City of Apopka park and recreational facilities. Work is performed under the direction of the Recreation Manager, or designee. Work is reviewed through observation and results achieved.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides in-person customer service and responds to park user and guest inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints at City park and recreation facilities.

Explains and enforces all City park and recreation policies.

Opens and closes City park and recreation facilities, according to posted schedules.

Completes routine facility safety inspections, as assigned.

Assists with general cleanup and appearance of City park and recreation facilities, to include picking up loose trash and restocking restrooms when needed.

Applies basic first aid to include CPR/AED and/or takes emergency measures necessary to insure the well-being of the park users and guests.

Work requires constant public contact, use of the telephone, reading, writing, typing, frequent walking, sitting, standing and occasional lifting of 40 lbs., bending, stooping, running, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, climbing, swimming, and reaching overhead. Works frequently in extreme weather.

As duties require, operates a utility cart, car, pick-up truck, and/or other related City vehicles.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Performs other duties or tasks as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to understand and effectively communicate park and recreation facility rules and regulations to park users, guests, and customers.

Ability to understand event or program layouts in a variety of City park locations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other city employees, officials, volunteers, civic groups and the general public.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing in English. Ability to understand and effectively carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records and prepare reports.

Ability to hear, run and swim in order to provide public safety functions.

Ability to safely operate a utility cart and other City vehicles.

Familiarity with computers and word-processing in general and initiative to learn all facets of software as may be utilized for maximum utilization.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum a high school diploma or equivalent.

One-year experience in performing progressively responsible recreational or security related duties desirable.

Class D Security License is desirable.

Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.

EQUIPMENT USED

Communication equipment, computers, radios/walkie-talkies, copy machine, multi-line phone system, fax machine, hand tools, variety of sports equipment, and various motor vehicles.
