This position requires 50% in office time in Columbia, South Carolina.

Role Overview The Art Director leads visual direction and design execution across web design, branding, and digital marketing projects. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on design leadership, ensuring that creative work is conceptually strong, technically sound, and delivered efficiently within agency workflows.
The Art Director works closely withtheCreative Director, designers, developers, strategists, and client services to translate client goals into cohesive visual systems that perform across platforms. This role is both client-facing and deeply collaborative, with accountability for quality, clarity, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities Digital Execution & Technical Partnership Oversee design for responsive websites, landing pages, digital campaigns, social media, email, and paid media.
Collaborate closely with developers to ensure design solutions are technicallyfeasible, performant, and scalable.
Consider accessibility, usability, and performance throughout the design process.
Apply digital production best practices, including asset optimization, compression, and file-size management.
Creative & Brand Leadership Participate in brand discovery, research, and positioning activities to inform visual direction.
Develop comprehensive brand identity systems, including logos, visual motifs, design elements, and style guides.
Generate strong creative concepts that support integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns.
Ensure visual consistency and brand cohesion across multiple client engagements and platforms.
Maintain and evolve design systems to support scalable, reusable, and efficient creative execution.
Design Rationale & Strategy Clearly articulate how design solutions address user needs, businessobjectives, technical constraints, and project requirements.
Present creative work confidently to internal teams and clients, explaining bothconceptand execution.
Balance creative ambition with scope, timelines, and budget realities.
Provide clear creative direction and actionable feedback to designers.
Review and approve design work to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with project goals.
Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams, with a clear understanding of roles, responsibilities, and project workflows.
Facilitate and actively lead team meetings to define assignment parameters, provide direction, and support team alignment and productivity.
Mentor and support the development of Creative Team members, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth, accountability, and high-quality output.
Workflow, Quality & Accountability Ensure assigned project phases meet internal deadlines, approval processes, and quality standards.
Incorporate revisions efficiently based on client and internal feedback.
Proactively manageworkloadand escalategoals when timelines or capacity are impacted.
Support continuous improvement of creative processes and agency workflows.
Required Qualifications 6+ years of professional design experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or leadership role.
Background in fine arts, graphic design, or visual communication
Strong portfoliodemonstratingdigital-first workand production awareness, including web design, branding, and marketing campaigns.
Advancedproficiencyin Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
Motion design or animation for web (After Effects or similar tools)
Strong conceptual thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
Masteryof UX/UI principles, responsive design, and accessibility standards.
Experience working closely with front-end developers and understanding technical constraints.
A strong attention to detail, with an eye for typography, layout,colorand brand consistency.
Experience working in a fast-paced, client-driven agency environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate creative decisions clearlyandarticulate design rationale tied to goals and constraints
Proven ability to deliver high-quality work while managing multiple priorities.
