Overview
The New York State Senate is seeking applicants to fill the position of Policy Advisor for the Senate Majority Counsel and Program Office. The Policy Advisor is responsible for performing the following duties:
Responsibilities
Providing legislative, policy and budget analysis, and central staff support, for the Senate Majority
Conference on matters referred to one or several other committees
Tracking related legislation active in the state Senate and Assembly, and occasionally federal or local legislation and administrative activity
Making oral presentations regarding relevant bills under consideration by the state Legislature
Drafting memoranda analyzing policy initiatives and state legislation
Assisting the Conference in negotiations
Preparing briefing materials in their respective standing committees for members of the Conference
Assisting Senators in preparation for public hearings, roundtable discussions, forums and other public meetings and events
Meeting with relevant advocacy and constituency groups
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree
Strong writing and oratory skills
Additional Information All candidates are expected to live and work in the Capital Region of New York. Preference will be given for candidates with demonstrated legislative experience.
