Position Summary
The Medical Assistant – Physical Therapy supports Physical Therapists in delivering high-quality patient care by assisting with treatment preparation, patient flow, and administrative duties. This role ensures an efficient clinical environment while providing excellent patient service and support throughout the therapy process.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and supplies for patient therapy sessions
Assist Physical Therapists with patient care under direct supervision, including positioning patients and supporting therapeutic exercises
Escort patients to and from treatment areas and ensure timely patient flow
Clean and sanitize equipment and treatment rooms between patients in accordance with infection control standards
Monitor and restock clinical supplies and notify management of inventory needs
Assist with applying modalities as directed (e.g., heat, ice, electrical stimulation) within scope of practice
Observe patients during therapy and report any concerns or changes to the Physical Therapist
Document patient interactions and assist with maintaining accurate medical records in the EMR system
Schedule appointments, confirm patient visits, and assist with front office duties as needed
Provide excellent customer service and ensure a positive patient experience
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
Previous experience in a physical therapy, orthopedic, or clinical setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic understanding of medical terminology and physical therapy practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist patients during therapy activities
Ability to lift and move equipment and assist patients (up to 50 lbs with assistance if needed)
Ability to remain on feet for extended periods
Work Environment
Outpatient physical therapy clinic or medical office setting
Frequent interaction with patients, clinical staff, and providers
