Overview
Develop, facilitate, manage and lead Field Solutions Agronomic Operations for BCS internal partners (primarily R&D) to promote individual growth and BCS success by bringing and supporting innovative technologies to agricultural markets which ultimately feed and clothe the world. Position Summary: This position (Located in Manhattan, KS) will assist the Field Research Scientist in executing yield trial research activities at the Bayer Crop Science research station. They will have the opportunity to work in operations related to yield trials through experiment set up, soil sampling, UAV flying, data collection, planting, harvesting and other activities as directed. This is a unique opportunity to work with leading edge technology and talented research scientists and managers seeking to deliver the Bayer Crop Science product pipeline to the commercial organization. Vehicle, phone, computer and tablet provided. Provide support for the Safety program by adhering to all safety policies and attendance at regular company sponsored safety meetings.
Responsibilities
Assist the Field Research Scientist in executing yield trial research activities at the Bayer Crop Science research station.
Work in operations related to yield trials: experiment set up, soil sampling, UAV flying, data collection, planting, harvesting and other activities as directed.
Provide support for the Safety program by adhering to all safety policies and attending regular safety meetings.
Travel within Eastern ½ of Kansas for the majority; overnight travel required 20% of the time.
Qualifications
Ability to work outside in all types of weather and conditions (hot, humid, wet).
Ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams and independently.
Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize tasks.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
Basic understanding of farm equipment maintenance.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Stamina for sustained outdoor activities (notes, plot maintenance, weed control for 2+ hours).
Basic agronomic knowledge on corn and soybean production.
Driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to read and write in English; understand verbal and written task and safety instructions; perform tasks accurately.
Must adhere to all SOPs and support site safety requirements; function as a team member and take daily direction from supervisors and managers.
Travel within Eastern half of Kansas; overnight travel 20% of the time.
Requirements/Preferences
Experience on a farm or agricultural background is preferred; general knowledge of computer operating systems.
KS pesticide license and UAV license would be beneficial but not required (can be provided if desired).
1-2 years of college or experience in an agricultural field is preferred but not required.
