Job Summary The Ophthalmic Assistant plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care by accurately obtaining and documenting detailed medical histories and performing a variety of ophthalmic tests as directed by the physician. Key responsibilities include conducting preliminary eye assessments, administering diagnostic tests, preparing patients for exams, and ensuring examination rooms and equipment are properly maintained. Additionally, this role supports administrative and business functions to maintain the clinic’s efficient daily operations, contributing to a positive and seamless patient experience.

About the Practice The physicians of Heaton Eye Associates have been serving East Texas’ vision needs for over 40 years. We offer state‑of‑the‑art technology with special services ranging from primary eye care to world‑class laser surgery. Our physicians were the first to offer LASIK laser vision correction in East Texas and have performed tens of thousands of procedures since its inception. Heaton Eye offers a wide range of premium lenses including Symfony Extended Depth of Focus lenses, PanOptix® lenses, and Vivity® lenses to offer freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery. Our surgeons were the first in East Texas to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, the only lens implant that allows patients to preview and adjust their vision after cataract surgery. We are the first and only practice in the area offering the EVO ICL, another exciting option offering patients freedom from contacts and glasses. Additionally, we have the only fellowship‑trained Pediatric Specialist as well as the only Oculoplastic Surgeon offering cosmetic, medical, and reconstructive surgery as well as state‑of‑the‑art aesthetic services in the area. Certifications / Licensure Preferred COA, but not required. (We will help you get certified if you aren't already).

Experience Preferred 2 years previous ophthalmic or optometric patient care or medical office, but we are willing to train the right candidate without this experience.

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred Associate Degree).

Job Duties

Patient workups – obtain and document exam information, perform testing prior to the exam

Special testing as ordered by Physician

Return patient phone calls

Scribing for the doctor(s)

Report completion

Protect patients' rights by maintaining the confidentiality of personal and financial information.

Maintain operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Extraordinary Customer Service and Team Member Relations – REQUIRED!

Medical experience is a plus, but not required
