UX/UI Designer (Desk Phones)
Sangoma, Columbia, SC, United States
Build it, Ship it, Own it
At Sangoma, we build the technology that keeps businesses connected. Every call, every transfer, every interaction matters. This role sits at the center of that experience. You'll be shaping how real work gets done, on devices used every day in high‑stakes environments. From front desks to contact centers, your work will define how quickly, clearly, and reliably people communicate. If you care about clarity, speed, and systems that just work, this is your space. We are looking for an experienced UX Product Designer to play a critical role in shaping the user experience of Sangoma's desk phones and telephony devices, focused on embedded, hardware‑contained device experiences.
Sangoma is dedicated to empowering organizations through reliable Unified Communications, UCaaS, CCaaS, VoIP, and Hybrid solutions. In this role, you will focus on how our desk phone products work, not just how they look—designing clear, efficient, and predictable interaction models for task‑critical communication workflows. While this is a remote position, we are looking for someone in either eastern or central time zones.
Your Role
Design how communication actually happens
Own the end‑to‑end UX of Sangoma's desk phone and device experiences, from interaction models to execution
Design for embedded, hardware‑constrained environments with physical inputs, limited screens, and real‑time expectations
Define task‑driven workflows for core telephony functions: calling, transfers, conferencing, voicemail, call handling, and more
Create clear, scalable interaction patterns that prioritize speed, predictability, and low cognitive load
Translate complex communication workflows into simple, intuitive user experiences
Develop UX artifacts including flows, wireframes, interaction specs, and system behaviors
Partner closely with firmware engineers to ensure designs are implemented accurately and perform reliably in production
Work with Product to align UX decisions with real‑world usage, customer needs, and business outcomes
Anticipate edge cases, failure states, and recovery paths in real‑time communication scenarios
Contribute to usability testing and iterate based on real user behavior
Help drive consistency and usability across Sangoma's broader device ecosystem
Define and evolve the interaction models, task flows, and usability foundations of Sangoma's phone firmware and device interfaces
Requirements
Minimum 3 years of experience (5+ years preferred) in UX and user interface design, product design, or interaction design
Curious, eager to learn, and motivated to understand how design decisions translate into real behavior
Demonstrated experience designing task‑focused, workflow‑driven interfaces
Strong understanding of human‑computer interaction (HCI) principles, including cognitive load, affordances, and error prevention
Comfortable prioritizing clarity, reliability, and speed of use over visual expressiveness when necessary
Ability to communicate UX rationale clearly to engineers and non‑design stakeholders
Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or similar
Experience working in cross‑functional Agile product teams
Preferred
Experience with telephony, VoIP, or enterprise communications products
Experience designing for constrained or non‑traditional platforms, such as embedded devices, hardware products, enterprise tools, or operational systems
Understanding of localization and internationalization considerations
Prior exposure to usability testing or field studies in enterprise or operational environments
Benefits
Extensive benefit options (Health, Vision, Dental, Long & Short‑term Disability) effective after a short waiting period
Matching 401(k) program – 100% match on 4%
Employee Stock Purchase Plan after one year of service
Flexible time off & company holidays
Entrepreneurial work environment partnered with high‑growth career opportunities
Salary range: $85,000 to $95,000 per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location
Are you ready to make a direct impact on the company and be rewarded for your performance? Are you ready to take on a new challenge?
Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis for any employer. No agencies or third‑party resumes, please.
Equal opportunity employer as to all protected groups, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities.
