Position Summary The Liberal R‑II School District is seeking a dynamic, student‑centered professional to serve as a Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director, and Head Boys Basketball Coach. This individual will provide high‑quality instruction, lead a comprehensive athletic program, and build a competitive and character‑driven basketball program while promoting a positive school culture.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Physical Education Teacher
Plan and deliver engaging Physical Education curriculum aligned with Missouri Learning Standards
Promote lifelong fitness, health, and wellness
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
Maintain a safe and structured learning environment
Assess and monitor student progress
Collaborate with staff to support student success
Athletic Director
Provide leadership and oversight for all district athletic programs
Ensure compliance with: Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA), District policies and procedures
Develop and manage athletic schedules, transportation, and facilities usage
Oversee athletic budgets, equipment, and uniforms
Hire, supervise, and evaluate coaches
Promote sportsmanship, character, and academic success
Coordinate eligibility, physicals, and required documentation
Serve as liaison between school, community, officials, and conference
Head Boys Basketball Coach
Develop and implement a competitive basketball program (7–12 preferred alignment)
Plan and conduct practices, games, and offseason programs
Teach fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship
Monitor academic progress and behavior of student‑athletes
Organize camps, youth programs, and community engagement opportunities
Maintain equipment and facilities related to the program
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain strong communication with students, parents, staff, and community
Support school‑wide initiatives and culture
Attend required meetings, events, and professional development
Model professionalism and leadership at all times
Qualifications
Valid Missouri teaching certificate in Physical Education (K–12)
Ability to obtain/hold appropriate coaching certifications
Knowledge of MSHSAA rules and regulations
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as an Athletic Director or head coach
Experience building and sustaining successful athletic programs
CPR/AED/First Aid certification
Terms of Employment
Salary and benefits per district schedule
Stipend for coaching responsibilities
