Overview
The YMCA is seeking Sports Support Staff for the 2026 Summer Andover Sports Camp.
Salary:
$16.00 per hour. The role involves creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment where kids can learn new skills, stay active, and build confidence through sports and play. A typical day includes leading age-appropriate drills and games in a variety of sports, supervising group activities, encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship, and connecting with campers during structured sessions and free-play times. Staff work closely with a supportive team of coaches and counselors, receive guidance and training, and have the opportunity to positively impact campers by being a role model and mentor. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status. Responsibilities
Provide sports support and activities for the sports program. Assist with demonstrations at practices as needed. Set up and breakdown of equipment at sporting events/practices. Enforce rules and regulations for each sports league and instructional program. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect participants, staff, equipment and the facility. Listen to concerns, resolve issues and correct inappropriate behavior, and share with leader or site coordinator as necessary. Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements. Build effective, authentic relationships with players, coaches and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identify potential volunteers. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary. Document situations and communicate timely to the Sports Director. Assist with participant check-in prior to each event as needed. Assist with preparation, tear-down and inspection of the game site and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Relationships
This position reports to the Sports Director who reports to the Executive Director of Sports. The individual interacts regularly with sports team members, volunteers and Association support team members. Qualifications
Required Must be 15 years old or older. Knowledge of rules in sports recreation program activities. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build community relationships. Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. CPR/PR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Ability to manage programs to a diverse population. Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Must have a desire to work with children and relate to them in a positive, energetic manner. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Management, physical education or related field. Bi/multilingual. Physical Demands
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, kneel, bend, twist and reach. Must be able to assist in sports drills with youth. Additional Notes
