The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is field-based, customer-facing, non-promotional medical and scientific position within the Mountain West area. The MSL’s objective is to advance clinical practice in the assigned territory to improve patient outcomes. The MSL serves as a scientific expert in HIV treatment and prevention, engages with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and medical experts, manages and develops their territory, and executes activities aligned with the medical strategic plan. The MSL informs and shapes medical strategy by collecting insights to drive development and commercialization of our products. Scientific Expertise:
Build strong scientific acumen and serve as a primary contact for medical and scientific inquiries in HIV treatment and prevention. Provide advanced scientific and clinical knowledge to internal teams and external stakeholders. Stakeholder Engagement:
Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with external experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Maintain a strategic plan to support external experts, facilitate scientific discussions, and collaborations to meet objectives. Engagements may include data discussions, clinical trial activities, patient journey considerations, market dynamics, unmet needs, pipeline discussions, disease state education, adverse event capture, and medical insights collection. Clinical Insights:
Gather and relay insights from the field to inform product development, clinical trial design, and market strategies. Provide feedback on ViiV products and services. Education and Training:
Develop and deliver scientific presentations and training sessions for healthcare professionals and internal teams. Support educational material creation and provide scientific training to colleagues. Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure activities comply with regulatory guidelines and company policies. Maintain accurate records of interactions and outcomes. Leadership and Mentorship:
Model ViiV’s culture and values. Mentor and coach new or less experienced MSLs and lead scientific or strategic projects to elevate team knowledge. Safety Communication:
Disseminate important safety information to healthcare professionals as directed by Medical Affairs or R&D teams. Agility and Adaptability:
Interface with a wide range of stakeholders, including external experts, healthcare professionals, investigators, professional societies, advocacy groups, and formulary decision-makers. Clinical Development Support:
Assist in clinical development activities, including Investigator-Sponsored Studies. Collaborate with Clinical Teams to improve site performance and provide insights into research interests. National Meetings:
Attend national and regional scientific/medical meetings to gain the medical voice of the customer on data relevant to ViiV. Matrix Collaboration:
Conduct business with a One-ViiV mindset, engaging across matrix stakeholders. Administration:
Complete responsibilities and trainings (e.g., CRM, email, expense reporting) in a timely manner and maintain up-to-date information in the CRM. Why you?
Basic Qualifications: Advanced degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or APP) 3+ years of clinical experience in HIV or Infectious Disease Stakeholder management experience Valid Driver’s License Ability to travel 40-60% Preferred Qualifications: HIV field medical experience in the US Proven track record of high performance within Field-Based Medical Affairs Strong grounding in clinical, medical, and pharmaceutical science with rapid knowledge assimilation Experience communicating evidence-based medicine with strong scientific presentation skills Leadership skills and business acumen, with stakeholder management and project experience Proven mentoring ability and experience leading field-based medical initiatives Effective one-on-one and group communication Strong communication skills #LI-ViiV #LI-GSK #LI-Remote Salary: The US annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $168,750 to $281,250. The salary reflects location, skills, experience, and market rate. This position offers an annual bonus and eligibility for a long-term incentive program.
