Overview COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER , Morningside Academy for Design (MAD), plays a key role in developing and executing MAD's communications and marketing strategies. This position is ideal for a communications professional with strong writing, graphic design, digital media, and project management skills who is ready to take on strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration. The Communications Manager will work closely with MAD leadership and stakeholders across MIT to ensure consistent, compelling messaging that reflects MAD's mission and values. The role includes developing and implementing communications strategies that support institutional goals and elevate MAD's visibility; translating complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences including students, faculty, partners, and the public; developing new editorial formats and thought-leadership content that position MAD as a hub for design at MIT; using analytics, both quantitative and qualitative, to assess communications performance and inform future strategy; contributing to brand development and ensuring consistency across platforms and materials; and supporting strategic planning for campaigns, events, and initiatives.
Responsibilities Develop and execute MAD's communications and marketing strategies in alignment with institutional goals.
Collaborate with MAD leadership to implement communications strategies that elevate MAD's visibility and reflect its mission and values.
Translate complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences including students, faculty, partners, and the public.
Develop new editorial formats and thought-leadership content that position MAD as a hub for design at MIT.
Use analytics, both quantitative and qualitative, to assess communications performance and inform future strategy.
Contribute to brand development and ensure consistency across platforms and materials.
Support strategic planning for campaigns, events, and initiatives.
Qualifications REQUIRED : Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field; a minimum of five years of experience in communications, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting; strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across media formats; demonstrated graphic design skills and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); experience managing websites using CMS platforms (e.g., Drupal, WordPress); experience managing social media platforms and tools (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite/Buffer); proven ability to use analytics to guide strategy and report outcomes; and excellent organizational and project management skills.
PREFERRED : Master's degree or equivalent experience; familiarity with design, architecture, or sustainability-related fields; experience with Adobe Creative Suite and CMS platforms; background in event promotion and media relations; and knowledge of accessibility and usability standards for digital content.
