Job Description Summary We are the makers of possible. BD advances healthcare through innovative solutions. The Senior Marketing Manager Strategic Innovation – Surgical Solutions supports front‑end innovation and upstream marketing activities for the biosurgery and infection prevention businesses within the surgical solutions platform. The surgical solutions platform is part of the bd surgery business unit within the interventional segment. Reporting to the marketing director, innovation, this role is responsible for driving successful execution of the global surgical solutions innovation funnel and serving as the marketing lead on needs finding and new product development (npd) projects.

This position partners closely with r&d, medical, sales, global and regional marketing, regulatory, quality, finance, and other cross‑functional teams across bd to advance projects and deliver comprehensive business cases, product requirements, and commercialization plans from concept through launch.

Responsibilities

Serve as commercial lead for assigned innovation and new product development (npd) programs.

Advance prioritized pipeline projects in alignment with business goals for revenue, profitability, and timing.

Identify and develop a deep understanding of unmet needs through surgical observations and voice of customer research; translate insights into opportunities to improve standard of care.

Define and lead qualitative and quantitative market research across surgical specialties to inform global market assessments, product concepts, and value propositions.

Build market and financial models to support opportunity assessments and business cases.

Define target product profiles, product requirements, and early‑stage concepts with clear commercial rationale.

Develop and clearly communicate business cases to senior leadership with recommendations focused on financial impact, product quality, and customer value.

Collaborate cross‑functionally to define program strategies, including regulatory, market access, clinical and economic evidence, and commercial planning.

Partner with global and regional teams to ensure decisions reflect local market dynamics and are communicated effectively.

Attend key medical congresses and engage with key opinion leaders (kols) to stay informed and build strategic relationships.

Generate commercialization and launch plans within bd’s global product delivery system.

Present to key stakeholders at innovation council, monthly portfolio decision team reviews, and other forums.

Support a positive, collaborative team culture.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned by surgical solutions leadership.

Qualifications, Knowledge, And Skills Required

Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field required; mba preferred.

5+ years of experience in medical device marketing or new product development. 1‑2 years of upstream marketing experience preferred.

Experience in the surgical and/or biosurgical medical device industry highly preferred.

Strategic problem solver with a growth mindset and strong influencing skills.

Highly analytical, with ability to assess market dynamics and identify trends and growth opportunities.

Strong customer and patient orientation; skilled at uncovering unmet needs to inform strategic direction.

Demonstrated strategic agility and sound judgment in fast‑paced, high‑priority environments.

Strong results orientation with ability to prioritize, multitask, and balance diverse stakeholder needs.

Demonstrated ability to drive projects, anticipate next steps with minimal guidance, update partners proactively, and deliver options and recommendations.

Proven ability to manage budgets.

Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills; able to influence across technical and business functions.

Strong interpersonal skills and leadership presence; able to motivate and inspire cross‑functional teams.

High integrity and alignment with bd values.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25–30%; flexibility to work across time zones.

Primary Work Location

USA – Warwick, RI or Vernon Hills, IL (Franklin Lakes, NJ can also be considered)

In‑office position – Monday through Thursday (optional remote Friday’s)

Travel can impact days in office.
