
Director of Estimating & Construction Sales

Fred Williams, an Equans company and HVAC mechanical contractor, is looking for a Director of Estimating and Construction Sales. In this role, you will be responsible for all preconstruction activities and managing the day-to-day estimating efforts; including oversight of preconstruction estimators. Utilize the strength of Equans in the industry along with Fred Williams local reputation to develop private, owner-direct business opportunities.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Serve as a key leader in the work acquisition process including management, coordination and delivery of the preconstruction phases of the project and extensive client contact.
Develop preliminary budgets, bid packages, preconstruction schedules, procurement plans, detailed estimates, bid evaluations and estimate presentations.
Maintain up to date, accurate, and easy to use estimating software tools and systems
Bring all estimates to a uniform, complete and easy to understand summary sheet
Maintain accurate hourly labor rates for estimating
Coordinate, manage, and supervise the work of subordinate preconstruction members.
Develop and maintain leads, assess lead sources, and help guide the identification of pursuit targets.
Define scope of work. Develop and monitor conceptual estimates with a focus on assessing alternative materials or methods while complying with design integrity and the desires of the owner.
Assure that potential risk factors have been evaluated and reviewed with senior management.
Coordinate and conduct preconstruction review meetings. Participate in meetings with the owner, architect, and engineer to review project scope and budget; provide advice as needed. Foster strong, post-project relationships.
Lead, develop, and manage preconstruction staff, such as oversee workload assignments and provide on-going feedback.
Identify opportunities to drive process improvements by using proven process enhancement tools.
Stay informed of new technologies and developing markets.
Actively participate in business development activities to help support the company’s current growth strategy.
Develop favorable relationships with prospective and existing customer decision-makers and influencers.Obtain information about new projects at the design phase, the parties affecting the project award and their relative influence in the decision-making process.
Oversee buyout of subcontractors and major equipment to meet, or improve, costs carried in estimates
Articulate the full breadth of the company’s portfolio of services to influence customers’ buying decisions.
Travel as required to support sales and operations

Qualifications: BA/BS degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management, or related field and 10-15 years direct experience. Previous experience working for a mechanical contractor; including estimating, bidding, procurement of materials and subcontractors. On-site experience in mechanical construction. Design-Build experience is desired. Passionate about quality, accuracy, and client satisfaction Account management experience, including developing and managing strong client and vendor relationships, is essential Strong negotiation experience desired. Strong leadership qualities, effective interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate with and to persuade a company’s decision-makers. Proposal writing, presentation, and sales experience is a plus. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
