Associate Director, Finance & Operations

Description

We are looking for an experienced Associate Director of Finance & Operations to join our team in Sonoma County, California. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who can oversee financial management, human resources, and operational systems while supporting the organization's growth and mission. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in nonprofit finance and operations, coupled with a collaborative approach to leadership.

Responsibilities:

- Manage the organization's financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and cash flow oversight.

- Ensure accuracy in accounts payable and receivable processes, including accruals, payments, and cash receipts.

- Supervise finance and operations personnel and maintain productive relationships with external accountants.

- Oversee human resources functions such as payroll, benefits administration, policy development, and compliance.

- Direct general operational areas, including insurance, IT systems, and facility management.

- Facilitate internal meetings at various organizational levels, including director, manager, and all-staff sessions.

- Provide financial reporting and governance support for the Board and its committees.

- Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop strategies, manage organizational growth, and lead change initiatives.

- Play an active role in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the organization.

- Strengthen internal controls, operational systems, and policy frameworks to enhance organizational efficiency

Requirements - Minimum of 7 years of senior-level experience in nonprofit finance and operations.

- Comprehensive understanding of nonprofit accounting practices, including audits, restricted funds, and Form 990.

- Proven ability to lead budgeting processes and communicate financial data effectively to diverse audiences.

- Expertise in human resources management, including compensation design, benefits administration, and compliance.

- Prior experience in grant accounting, funder reporting, and cost allocation within nonprofit organizations.

- Demonstrated ability to create financial dashboards and board-level financial materials.

- Strong leadership skills with a collaborative and communicative approach.

- Commitment to the organization's mission and values, including integrating principles of equity and inclusion into practices.
