Role Overview The Board of Directors Member is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for guiding Product Hive’s strategy, governance, and operational success. As part of a working board, you will actively contribute to both high‑level decision‑making and day‑to‑day execution to ensure the organization runs effectively and delivers meaningful value to the community.
This role is ideal for experienced product leaders across product management, product design, product marketing, research, or product operations who want to apply their skills to a mission‑driven organization. A key focus for the board this year is building sustainable funding through sponsorships, partnerships, and fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities Governance and Strategic Leadership
Contribute to board‑level decisions that guide Product Hive’s direction, priorities, and growth
Uphold fiduciary duties of care, loyalty, and obedience in all decisions
Ensure alignment with Product Hive’s mission, bylaws, and nonprofit obligations
Participate in strategic planning and evaluate progress against organizational goals
Operational Contribution (Working Board)
Actively support the execution of programs, events, and initiatives alongside volunteers
Partner with team managers and volunteers to remove blockers and improve outcomes
Provide expertise in your domain (product, design, marketing, operations, etc.) to strengthen execution
Help ensure the volunteer workforce is supported, effective, and aligned
Fundraising and Sustainability
Contribute to achieving annual fundraising goals through sponsorship and partnerships
Support the development of a sustainable funding model for Product Hive
Participate in sponsor conversations, outreach, and relationship management
Bring ideas and opportunities that strengthen long‑term financial health
Board Engagement and Collaboration
Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings
Respond to board communications in a timely and reliable manner
Collaborate closely with other board members and volunteer leaders
Help recruit, onboard, and support future board and advisory members
Community Representation
Serve as an ambassador for Product Hive within the Wasatch Front and broader product community
Represent the organization in events, partnerships, and industry conversations
Help strengthen Product Hive’s presence and credibility within the ecosystem
Examples of Work
Supporting execution of a major event or program alongside volunteers
Helping close or expand a sponsorship partnership
Advising on product strategy for community programs or tools
Contributing to annual planning and fundraising strategy
Qualifications
Experience as a product leader (product management, product design, product marketing, research, or product operations)
Strong strategic thinking with willingness to contribute hands‑on
Ability to collaborate across teams and work effectively in a volunteer‑driven environment
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
Passion for community‑building and supporting others’ growth
Nonprofit or fundraising experience is a plus
Based in the Wasatch Front preferred but not required
Commitment This volunteer role requires approximately 4–6 hours per month, including monthly board meetings and ongoing contributions. Time commitment can be daily Slack messages. Board terms are typically two years, with the option to renew.
