Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated

Principal Business Intelligence Analyst

to join our dynamic Informatics team to cover maternity leave for 11 months. This is a key Trust-wide role, providing high‑quality intelligence and insight that directly supports clinical services, operational delivery and strategic decision‑making.

Main duties of the job As a Principal BI Analyst, you will lead the delivery of high‑quality analytics across defined clinical or corporate service areas (e.g. performance, finance, transformation or clinical divisions). You will manage a diverse portfolio of work, ranging from ad‑hoc analytical requests to longer‑term service improvement projects, while also contributing to the strategic development of the Trust's Business Intelligence function.

You will act as a trusted expert, translating complex data into clear, actionable intelligence for senior clinical and non‑clinical audiences, and representing BI at key meetings across the organisation.

Person Specification Experience

Experience of working in the NHS or in a healthcare / clinical environment

Significant experience of working in an analytical, information or business intelligence role

Experience of supervising staff and supporting team members in a collaborative manner to deliver the function's objectives

Experience of working with health service managers and professionals to deliver information requirements, meeting stakeholder needs to a high standard.

Experience of defining, testing and producing various types of reports and graphical representations using different reporting tools

Experience of communicating complex issues and data concepts to a range of non‑technical audiences.

Experience of producing new data sets / reports in response to new local or national/contracted requirements

Skills

Ability to analyse and interpret very large and complex datasets using a variety of analytical / statistical techniques

Ability to manipulate highly complex information and present it in a simplified manner.

Ability to extract and analyse data from multiple data sources and transpose into meaningful intelligence through the application of; prescriptive, descriptive and/or predictive analysis

Ability to take a structured, diagnostic approach to finding solutions to complex data and quality issues.

Ability to work competently with Microsoft Office software to advanced level, in particular a thorough understanding of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to identify key points from complex issues and explain them appropriately and with clarity to information users

Strong organisational / prioritisation skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced NHS Acute Trust informatics environment to meet strict deadlines

Ability to identify and embrace change in the drive towards continuous improvement

Ability to interpret guidance and other technical documents for new local or national/contractual requirements and put into application

Knowledge

Understanding of Information Governance and the value and importance of ensuring patient confidentiality

Expert knowledge and understanding of NHS mandatory reporting requirements, data standards and definitions

Knowledge and understanding of NHS targets, performance routes and monitoring mechanisms

An in‑depth knowledge of healthcare information systems or other process‑based systems

An understanding of how to use app‑based tools and an interest in building web‑based applications.

Knowledge and understanding of any other reporting tools, statistical analyst package or database tools e.g., SSRS, R

Knowledge of Trust information systems (e.g., Cerner EPR, Medway)

Qualifications

Degree in Health Informatics or related discipline e.g., computing, statistics or equivalent level of experience

'A' Level Mathematics or equivalent in computing/applications/IT

Recent professional training in the use of a Business Intelligence reporting tool (preferably Microsoft Power BI)
