************ POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CLASSIFIED SERVICE ******************
The Tax Division seeks an experienced appraiser to join its Property Tax Division. Responsibilities include appraising industrial real estate and personal property to establish countywide estimates of value and establishing the final fair market value estimates on all appraisals. The selected candidate will also assist and monitor County Assessors in their administrative duties related to property valuation. The successful applicant must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of professional appraisal approaches, a thorough understanding of West Virginia appraisal and assessment laws and policies, and proficiency in the written and oral presentation of factual material. The position requires performing all related work as necessary. A valid driver’s license and the availability of a reliable vehicle are required, as frequent travel, including potential overnight travel, is essential. The applicant must be willing to travel within the area of assignment. While the position may be based anywhere in the state, preference may be given to applicants residing in the Morgantown or Martinsburg areas.
Employment requires a fingerprint‑based criminal‑background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division’s expense. Failing to initiate the process or cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered. The chosen applicant will also be subject to a tax compliance check.

Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
OR Substitution:
Additional experience may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours.
Experience:
Four (4) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience as an appraiser or experience involving hands‑on involvement in the valuation of assets.
Special Requirement:
A valid driver’s license is required.
