Position Summary The Translator provides English/Spanish translation services to help district staff, teachers, students, and families communicate effectively.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent

College training and/or academic preparation in both English and Spanish preferred

Bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish

Valid Georgia driver’s license

Criminal Justice Fingerprint

Background Clearance

Reliable transportation between sites

Skills-Based Competencies Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions, operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications, and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Knowledge-Based Competencies Required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: compose a variety of documents, facilitate group discussions, perform translation services, and apply appropriate codes, policies, regulations, community resources, and student support services.

Ability-Based Competencies Required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job‑related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals, work with a variety of data, and utilize job‑related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans, with independent interpretation of guidelines and moderate problem solving with equipment. Essential Duties

Assists the school system in communicating with students and families to understand system and/or school requirements and processes for the purpose of supporting student learning and achievement.

Completes translation of documents.

Organizes interpreting services (parent/teacher conferences, open house, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the needs of families and schools.

Assists Parent Information Center for the purpose of registering non‑English speaking families.

Translates critical information for presentation to parents on websites and other public venues.

Builds partnerships with local agencies (Catholic Social Services, UGA’s Romance Languages Department, etc.) for the purpose of developing a volunteer program for interpreting.

Responds to emergency needs for translation for all schools.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
