It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars from the state’s general fund. Our mission is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. Ninety-five cents of every dollar spent by players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retailer compensation. In fiscal year 2022-23, the California Lottery generated sales of approximately $9.2 billion with over $2.2 billion earned for California public schools. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state. Product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers games and several draw games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and SuperLotto Plus and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot. Job Description and Duties Achieve individual retailer recruitment goal. Identify and recruit potential chain and independent retailers to promote Lottery products or programs in these accounts. Create, design and conduct formal presentations to executive/corporate personnel to promote Lottery products. Develop and maintain effective relationships with retailers. Serve as liaison between the Lottery and retailers, working with executive level personnel in the largest retail stores and chains of stores to develop, promote and monitor the sales of Lottery tickets and games. Develop and execute in-store promotions when applicable. Ensure retailers and account representatives understand Lottery policies, practices and procedures. Establish detailed agreements between the Lottery and retailer accounts and monitor these agreements. Analyze data and initiate corrective action to help retailers’ performance when applicable. Independently resolve problems with assigned accounts, and participate in account consultation to managers and administrators throughout the Lottery. Working Conditions Schedule: Monday through Friday – Typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Travel: Assigned district travel (driving) to prospect and retail locations is required. Other: Overtime and/or travel (including statewide overnight travel) may be required. Desirable Qualifications Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing, including experience delivering compelling proposals, reports, and status updates to various audiences. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills that drive productivity and create sales opportunities. Strong analytical skills. Solid understanding of sales tracking metrics, with the ability to generate, analyze and interpret data. Comprehensive knowledge and professional command of the sales process. Experience using technology (including smartphones, tablets, and computers) to facilitate sales in-office and out in the field. Proficiency with Microsoft suite of programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and Teams. A background in marketing and advertising; lottery, gaming, entertainment, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) preferred. Bilingual skills are desirable but not required.
