
Student Intern (Parks and Recreation)

Description
Sioux City Parks and Recreation is hiring a motivated Parks and Recreation Intern to support community programs, events, and park operations while gaining hands‑on experience in the recreation field. The intern will assist with planning activities, coordinating events, promoting programs and helping maintain welcoming and safe park facilities. This position provides valuable exposure to program development, community engagement and daily operations within a parks and recreation department. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, dependable students or recent graduates in recreation, parks management, sports management, public administration or a related field who are interested in serving the community.

Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under time‑sensitive deadlines.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
Ability to express oneself clearly both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the general public.
Effectively communicate skills and provide assistance to customers (external and internal).
Write and speak clearly, distinctly and effectively with fellow employees and the general public.
Read in English and compare similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
Apply common sense understanding to work processes, procedures, programs and services and to provide and follow verbal and written instructions.
Regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Good physical condition.
Work may be performed inside a typical office environment with heating and cooling or in outdoor field conditions with varying weather, occupational hazards typically associated with public contact, and varying street‑level noises; and touring work sites that are in various stages of development.
Minimum Required Qualifications Must have a work‑experience/educational agreement between the City and the educational institution in which they are enrolled, and may be required to have a valid driver’s license.
Applicants for this class must be currently enrolled students in a degree program in good standing at an accredited technical school, college or university.
