Position Summary:
The Associate Director of College Counseling assists and advises students and their families through the preparatory and college application process. Prior experience in College Counseling is preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently and collaborate with a team, attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
Providing College Counseling to roughly 35-40 students (per class) in keeping with the mission, values, and standards established by Kent School.
Meeting individually and communicating regularly with both students and parents/guardians to explore and identify appropriate college options.
Guiding students and others in understanding and utilizing Scoir, the college admission data system.
Providing guidance, resources, and tech tools to navigate the college search and application process.
Preparing supplementary materials to be sent to colleges. Ensuring that school credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation) are properly submitted to colleges.
Sharing financial aid and scholarship information with students and families.
Understanding the college admission process at a variety of institution types and selectivity levels.
Pursuing appropriate professional development, including attendance at annual conferences in counseling and admissions professional organizations.
Building and maintaining relationships with college admissions professionals.
Maintaining a strong working knowledge of colleges, universities, and the educational landscape of higher education, which includes making regular visits.
Assisting with other related duties as assigned by the Director of College Counseling.
Coaching two seasons of interscholastic sports or an equivalent (usually three seasons) of co-curricular activities.
Performing regular duty in our residential program.
Participating in Faculty committees.
Serving as Advisor to 5-7 students.
Maintaining a Public Passenger Endorsement to drive a school vehicle for school activities.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test;
Maintain punctual and regular attendance;
Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
