Intern Opportunity With Appleton Police Department
The Appleton Police Department is looking for a student volunteer/intern in the Community Resource Unit for the Summer of 2026. This position serves under the primary supervision of the Community Resource Unit Lieutenant and will work primarily with the Appleton Police Department Community Engagement Specialist. Examples of duties include: Social media outreach and content development Basic photo taking and editing Community outreach and event planning Ride-along and shadow opportunities throughout the department Assist in generating content for Neighborhood Watch, newsletters and National Night Out. Other duties as assigned Typical qualifications include: Must be at least 18 years old at the time of starting. Ability to fulfill duties and responsibilities with a limited amount of direct supervision (after appropriate training), and to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Ability to effectively interact with other employees and the public in a positive and professional manner. Ability to perform work in a multi-task environment, prioritizing needs for effective service to the community. Dependable, with a sense of responsibility and reliability. Basic computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and administrative skills applicable to entry-level employees. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Previous experience in web design or video editing, a plus. Supplemental information includes: Work Schedule:
Approximately 20 hours per week, with flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends are required based on community event schedules. The ideal intern will be highly motivated, outgoing, and eager to learn. Beneficial career paths or college degrees may include (but are not limited to) Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media or Media Production, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Graphic Design, Sociology, and Human Services. This is a summer position, with the option of running into Fall. College credit may be available. When practical, some work may be done remotely. This position is a non-benefited position with the City of Appleton.
