Job Summary/Description The Instructional Designer at Angelo State University partners with faculty across disciplines to design accessible, engaging, and effective online and digitally enhanced courses that support student success. Through consultation, professional learning, and evidence‑based instructional design practices, the role identifies course goals, supports faculty throughout the design and development process, evaluates course quality, and integrates technologies that enhance teaching and learning.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
Actively contribute to the daily operations of the CDLI by monitoring communication and support channels, responding to faculty needs in a timely manner, collaborating with team members, and delivering high-quality service that strengthens the Center’s effectiveness and reputation.
Consult with faculty and academic units to plan, design, redesign, and evaluate Online and technology enhanced courses by aligning learning outcomes, assessments, learning activities, and instructional materials through evidence‑based instructional design practices and inclusive teaching principles that support academic rigor, student engagement, and equivalency across instructional modalities.
Create, facilitate, and assess professional development opportunities and faculty‑facing resources, including individual consultations and design guides, related to course design, online and digitally enhanced pedagogy, accessibility, and the purposeful integration of instructional technologies.
Advise faculty on Universal Design for Learning, accessibility requirements, ADA‑related considerations, copyright, and open educational resources to promote equitable access and compliance in course materials.
Conduct course design reviews and contribute to institutional quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts by applying established standards, documenting recommendations, analyzing feedback, researching emerging practices, and collaborating with campus partners.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge:
Knowledge of instructional design models, adult learning principles, course quality standards, and effective practices for online and digitally enhanced teaching and learning.
Knowledge of accessibility, Universal Design for Learning, copyright, and open educational resources in course design.
Skills:
Skilled in consulting with faculty on course design, redesign, alignment, evaluation, and professional learning.
Abilities:
Ability to assess course quality, recommend appropriate educational technologies, and manage collaborative projects across disciplines.
Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent writing, facilitation, presentation, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, including multi‑year initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
Ability to translate AI‑related and technical concepts into accessible, learner‑centered educational experiences for faculty and students.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, educational technology or a closely related field.
Minimum one year experience in the role of instructional designer in an institution of higher education.
Experience collaborating directly with faculty on course design, redesign, or course quality improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in instructional design, instructional technology, educational technology or a closely related field.
Three to five years’ experience in the role of instructional designer in an institution of higher education.
Experience providing instructional design using the Blackboard LMS.
Quality Matters (QM), Online Learning Consortium (OLC), or similar current certification in online course design.
