Position Summary System One is seeking an experienced
HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environmental) Director
to lead all safety and environmental aspects of a large-scale natural gas power generation project. This role will oversee HSSE strategy and execution during the
installation, integration, and commissioning of gas turbine units (including Siemens SGT-800) and balance-of-plant systems .
The HSSE Director will act as the senior safety leader on site, ensuring compliance, driving a proactive safety culture, and partnering with EPC contractors, OEMs, and project leadership to deliver a zero-incident project.
Key Responsibilities HSSE Leadership & Strategy
Lead development and implementation of the site-wide HSSE program
Establish safety expectations, policies, and performance standards
Drive a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across all stakeholders
Serve as the primary HSSE advisor to project leadership
Project Execution Support
Oversee HSSE performance during all phases: construction, installation, and commissioning
Ensure safe execution of gas turbine installation and heavy lift activities
Support planning and risk mitigation for high-risk work scopes
Integrate HSSE requirements into project schedules and execution plans
Contractor Oversight
Manage HSSE performance of EPC contractors, subcontractors, and OEM personnel
Conduct audits, inspections, and performance evaluations
Enforce compliance with site safety standards and regulatory requirements
Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented
Risk Management & Compliance
Identify, assess, and mitigate project HSSE risks
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and company policies
Lead Job Safety Analyses (JSA), hazard assessments, and permitting processes
Maintain HSSE documentation, reporting, and metrics
Training & Culture
Develop and deliver HSSE training and onboarding programs
Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned and best practices
Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and leadership engagement initiatives
Environmental & Security Oversight
Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations
Oversee waste management, emissions controls, and environmental monitoring
Coordinate site security protocols and emergency response planning
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
Provide regular HSSE performance reports to executive leadership
Interface with regulatory agencies, clients, and project stakeholders
Support owner reporting requirements and audits
Required Experience Must Have:
10–15+ years of HSSE experience in industrial or energy projects
Significant experience supporting large-scale construction or power generation projects
Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental complianceExperience managing HSSE for EPC contractors and multi-employer worksites
Proven leadership experience overseeing site safety teams
Strongly Preferred:
Experience with gas turbine or power plant projects (combined cycle or simple cycle)
Background supporting OEM installation (Siemens, GE, Mitsubishi)
Experience in commissioning/startup phases
CSP, ASP, CHST, or equivalent certifications
Experience on fast-track or large-scale infrastructure projects
