Assistant Director - Budget & Financial Planning
Department: Budget and Financial Planning Office
Salary: $73,957 - $93,062; commensurate with experience
Job Summary/Basic Function Attend meetings and respond to daily inquiries on behalf of the Director of Budget & Financial Planning in his/her absence; research transactions, explain procedures to campus departmental personnel, answer general budget questions, etc. Prepare sections of the University's $400 million budget for the local Board of Trustees and the Tennessee Board of Regents. Prepare the University's annual appropriation request for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Provide complex analysis of university revenues and expenditures to aid the Director of Budget & Financial Planning to make decisions regarding finances for the University. Create Access and Argos reports for internal department use and outside departments. Determine that the University Budget is in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Communicate with other State Agencies regarding the Chairs of Excellence budgets and expenditures and perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.
Required Education Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
Required Related Experience Five (5) years successful, progressively responsible, full‑time paid employment in a responsible accounting, auditing, or budgeting position required.
Desirable Related Experience Prior experience in higher education accounting or budgeting preferred. Working knowledge of a mainframe human resource system and financial system preferred.
Desirable License/Registration/Certification CPA, MBA, or related graduate degree desired.
