
Commercial Loan Underwriter

The Commercial Loan Underwriter is responsible for evaluating, analyzing, and underwriting commercial credit requests to assess risk and ensure sound lending decisions. This role supports the bank’s commercial lending activities by reviewing borrower financials, structuring loan terms, and ensuring compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of commercial lending practices.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze loan applications for commercial and small business underwriting transactions.
Conduct thorough financial assessments, including income analysis, credit risk evaluation, and collateral valuation.
Interpret complex financial statements, tax returns, and other relevant documents.
Collaborate with loan officers, borrowers, and third-party vendors to gather necessary information and documentation.
Assess loan eligibility based on underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and regulatory compliance.
Prepare detailed underwriting reports and recommendations for approval or denial of loan applications.
Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless transaction processing.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in underwriting.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in underwriting commercial loans
Proficiency in analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and property valuations.
Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and engage with clients professionally.
Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy, thoroughness, and maintaining high-quality standards.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
