Position Overview The Strategic Communications Manager is a key member of Milken’s External Relations team, responsible for leading and executing high-impact strategic communications initiatives that elevate the School’s brand and advance institutional priorities.
This role partners closely with internal departments to design and implement thoughtful, coordinated communications strategies that showcase excellence across the School. The Strategic Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications and works collaboratively across departments to ensure messaging is aligned, compelling, and mission-driven.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and strong project manager who can translate institutional priorities into clear messaging, meaningful storytelling, and measurable outcomes.
Specific Responsibilities Strategic Communications Projects Athletics, Scholar-in-Residence, Performing Arts & Signature Programs
Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies to elevate the visibility and reputation of Athletics, Integration, Performing Arts & Signature Programs
Partner with department leaders to identify key narratives, milestones, achievements, and community stories.
Plan and implement coordinated messaging across website, social media, email, print, and other platforms.
Ensure consistent brand standards and high-quality storytelling across all collateral.
Cross-Department Strategic Initiatives
Lead communications planning and implementation for major institutional initiatives as assigned.
Develop messaging frameworks and project plans that align with broader School strategy.
Coordinate with the Creative Director and marketing team on design, digital content, and campaign execution.
Establish timelines, benchmarks, and metrics to evaluate effectiveness.
Content Development & Storytelling
Produce compelling written and digital content including feature stories, announcements, talking points, website copy, and campaign messaging.
Identify and cultivate storytelling opportunities that highlight student achievement, faculty excellence, and program innovation.
Ensure consistent voice and messaging across all platforms.
Support photography, videography, and multimedia storytelling efforts.
Strategic Planning & Project Management
Develop and implement communications plans with clear goals, deliverables, timelines, and success metrics.
Serve as project manager for assigned communications initiatives from conception through execution and evaluation.
Monitor engagement data and provide analysis and recommendations for improvement.
Collaborate with External Relations leadership to ensure strategic alignment across departments.
Other Strategic Initiatives as Assigned
Support school-wide priorities and emerging initiatives requiring coordinated communications leadership.
Contribute to integrated marketing campaigns and institutional storytelling efforts.
Champion the Milken Way in all communications and cross-department collaboration.
Support for External Relations and communications initiatives as needed.
Assist with crisis communications planning and rapid-response messaging as needed.
Qualifications
Commitment to Milken’s mission and core values.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
4–7 years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Strategic thinker with strong project management abilities.
Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse constituencies.
Entrepreneurial mindset with a high level of initiative and follow‑through.
Experience working in CMS, Social Media platforms, Adobe or Canva, and CRM/Database systems required.
Flexible, highly detail oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Standard On-Campus Hours Start: Monday – Friday by 8 AM End: Monday – Thursday 4 PM, Friday 3:00 PM All schedules are subject to change.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000
