Spatial and Interior Designer, 2 Hour Learning (Remote) - $100,000/year USD
Crossover, Houston, TX, United States
You walk into a room and immediately sense whether it's been crafted with intention or assembled from afterthoughts. You register the warmth of the lighting, the presence of clutter, visible cables, how tightly the seating is packed, and the overall atmosphere. Once you spot what's wrong, you can't ignore it. If you're ready to shape the visual and spatial identity of a "high-performance school," this role offers that opportunity.
2 Hour Learning is creating AI-powered private schools where students complete their core academic work in just two hours each day, then dedicate their afternoons to life skills and passion-based pursuits. As campuses roll out nationwide, the physical spaces must reflect the brand's promise: serene, deliberate, unconventional, and undeniably premium.
This position is responsible for establishing that standard and ensuring it can be replicated reliably across all locations.
You will define the design direction, develop floor plans that depart from conventional classroom layouts, and establish guidelines that preserve brand integrity as the organization grows. This is not about managing external partners or overseeing facilities. It is focused, high-judgment design work under real constraints with direct organizational impact.
If you possess the discernment to establish a new category and the efficiency to execute without compromise, we want to hear from you.
What You Will Be Doing
Developing comprehensive campus design vision documents (philosophy, visual references, material palettes, lighting approach, furniture guidance) that convey premium quality and move away from conventional school aesthetics
Generating detailed spatial plans that support flexible learning environments, intuitive circulation, and cohesive lighting and environmental strategies
Establishing and stewarding design standards and parameters that ensure consistency across all campuses while allowing adaptation to varying site conditions
Executing rapid improvement cycles at active campuses by identifying refinement opportunities and producing ranked action lists that enhance finish quality without stalling openings
What You Won’t Be Doing
Coordinating with vendors, engaging contractors, or handling purchasing activities
Supervising construction work, facility upkeep, or senior-level operations management
Creating attractive but conventional private school interiors featuring vivid primary palettes and institutional-grade surfaces
Pursuing flawless execution when it conflicts with opening schedules
Spatial And Interior Designer Key Responsibilities This position ensures that every campus opens and matures with a category-defining, premium, unconventional physical presence that remains uniform as the organization scales.
Basic Requirements
At least 3 years of professional experience in interior, spatial, environmental, or experiential design
Portfolio showcasing premium physical spaces (examples include hospitality, high-end residential, boutique commercial, cruise ship, or experiential projects)
Demonstrated capability to independently develop mood boards and complete conceptual direction for environments
Documented experience producing spatial layouts that enhance circulation, occupancy efficiency, and user comfort
Deep understanding of materials and lighting (surface treatments, tactile qualities, color temperature, and their psychological effects)
Refined aesthetic sensibility with clear evidence of restraint, balanced proportions, and attention to fine detail
Proficiency with AI-driven tools or demonstrable track record of quickly mastering emerging design technologies
Authorization to work in the United States and willingness to operate in a hybrid model requiring 50–70% travel to campus sites
Nice-to-have Requirements
Background in designing scalable multi-location environments supported by defined standards and reusable frameworks
Prior work on non-traditional learning, community, or wellness environments featuring adaptable seating configurations
Capable rapid visualization or rendering abilities that accelerate concept refinement and stakeholder alignment
