The Summer Camp Director will provide operational leadership for our 6‑7 week Going Places Summer Camp program. The candidate will build a successful team of camp instructors while having a positive impact on students, parents, partners, and the local community.

About AlphaBEST & Going Places Summer Camp AlphaBEST Education, a leading provider of after‑school and summer programs, and FableVision, an award‑winning educational media and storytelling company, co‑developed “Going Places” Summer Camp featuring the award‑winning book by FableVision’s founders and twin brothers, Paul and Peter H. Reynolds. Going Places Summer offers engaging, immersive activities and challenges based on the book’s themes, which illustrate the critical life skills known as the “4Cs” – communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
We can’t fully achieve our mission of learning through wonder without staff who exemplify these same beliefs and are passionate about making an impact on our youth. Summer camp is not for everyone, but we don’t want just anyone – we want the most passionate and engaging staff around for our students! Essential Responsibilities
Overseeing a variety of enrichment classes, including instructors and onsite coordinators
Building and maintaining relationships with partners, parents, and students
Support, coach, and inspire a cohesive team of camp instructors
Ensure that all curriculum and program elements are being executed as intended
Organize and maintain inventory of curriculum supplies
Deliver and collect curriculum and materials at the beginning and end of each session
Create weekly camp instructor schedules, and provide coverage for instructors in the event of an unexpected delay or absence
Provide exceptional customer service to partners, parents and students
Clearly and efficiently communicate to AlphaBEST support team as needed
Requirements
Strong performance‑driven proactive leader with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to exceed tactical and strategic objectives
Genuine love and interest in working with children and/or education
Experience working and leading in youth development setting
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Passion to cultivate individual talents, motivate successfully, display commitment, and seek continuous enhancement
Demonstrates a sense of urgency and the ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Treats people with respect, keeps commitments, inspires others’ trust, works with integrity, and upholds organizational values.
Demonstrates passion, humility, positive attitude, is mission‑driven, and self‑directed
Ability to partner with diverse work groups and with employees at all levels
Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
Flexibility to meet changing needs and demands while balancing multiple tasks efficiently
CPR/First Aid certified OR willing to become certified by the start of camp
Experience & Education
College degree preferred but not required
Preferred experience with elementary students
Experience leading a team preferred
Experience working with kids or in a camp setting is a plus
Hours
Staff may work anytime between the hours of 6:30 am – 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Staff meetings: During regular work hours, before or after the start of programming.
2‑12 hours of online training before camp begins.
Training and set‑up days: Participate in two mandatory training and set‑up days in the days before camp starts.
Camp cleanup: Participate in cleaning and packing up camp for 1‑5 additional hours during your last week of camp, typically at the end of the day.
