Position Overview/Duties This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Applications must be submitted after 12:01 AM (ET) of the posted Job Posting Open Date and before 11:59 PM (ET) of the posted Job Posting Close Date to receive consideration.
Primarily responsible for day-to-day direction and leadership of the Powerplant Electric Shop.
Major Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
Leadership:
Serve as a working leader for the J Strom Thurmond power plant's electrical maintenance team. This role involves leading, guiding, and training craftsmen and trainees in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems within the hydroelectric power facility.
Work Planning:
Assists in planning and scheduling weekly and monthly work. Assigns duties to subordinates, provides technical guidance, and trains employees on proper methods and procedures.
Maintenance and Repair:
Performs and leads the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide variety of electrical equipment. This includes major systems such as generators, motors, transformers, and circuit breakers, as well as auxiliary systems like batteries, communication systems, and HVAC.
Equipment Operation:
Operates heavy equipment such as overhead and gantry cranes, and hoist equipment, following required procedures to ensure safe operation. Operates various shop and test equipment, including grinders, presses, voltmeters, and meggers.
Safety and Compliance:
Implements and enforces adherence to all safety rules and regulations. This includes identifying hazards, ensuring the proper use of safety equipment, and maintaining compliance with safety procedures.
Record Keeping:
Maintains records, drawings, and manuals related to all electrical maintenance and repair work. Manages the requisition and use of supplies and materials.
System Operation:
During abnormal conditions at remote plants, may be required to operate generators from the control room, including manual start-up, synchronization, and loading.
Other Conditions And Requirements
All positions require the applicant to be a citizen of the United States.
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, are required to register for Selective Service prior to appointment.
A trial or probationary period may be required.
Direct deposit of pay is required.
This is a drug testing designated Position. The employee is required to complete DA FORM 5019-Condition of Employment. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-employment physical and submit to annual physicals thereafter.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

Relocation (PCS) expenses may be authorized (subject to available budget) if the selecting official determines the relocation is in the best interests of the government.
