The
Commercial Loan Underwriter
is responsible for underwriting commercial loans, inclusive of C&I and real estate loans while ensuring compliance with appropriate company credit policies and procedures. This person will analyze the character, collateral, cash flow, capital and conditions of every credit request and make an informed and objective credit decision.
Primary Responsibilities
Examine overall loan documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness on commercial properties.
Review loan to value ratios, credit reports, appraisal reports and Phase I reports.
Analyze all cash flow information and collateral and perform required underwriting stress tests on proposed commercial originations.
Discuss any potential underwriting exceptions and review with the AVP of Commercial Lending.
Discuss the new loan transaction with the sponsoring RM and AVP of Commercial Lending when appropriate.
Prepares written credit memo for new loans to be submitted for signature approval or to Loan Committee for approval.
Assist in ensuring loan processing staff procures appropriate information necessary to finalize incomplete loan packages. Stay abreast of any changes in loan underwriting policy and procedural changes.
Effectively communicate with RM on underwriting issues or the need for additional data.
Perform cash flow assessments on all commercial loans annually to ensure ample debt service coverage and appropriate risk rating classifications.
Perform commercial property inspections on new and existing assets as required by the AVP of Commercial Lending.
Ensure compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures. Perform additional accountabilities as required.
Perform collection calls as required and other miscellaneous credit related responsibilities as directed by the AVP of Commercial Lending.
Essential Qualifications Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalency certification. College degree in Business, Finance or related field is preferred along with five (5) years minimum of Commercial Loan Underwriting experience.
Knowledge of commercial loan application and approval standards
Knowledge of commercial loan documentation requirements
Demonstrated skill in member/customer service
Demonstrated proofing skills
Demonstrated skill in reporting and summarizing financial data
General knowledge of credit union loan policies as well the following regulations: Truth in Lending, HMDA, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Uniform Commercial Code, HUD, RESPA, Fair Housing Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act as well as lending related laws and other NCUA regulations
