
Development/Content Instructor-Commercial Real Estate

Under the general supervision of Instructor Services, the Development/Content Instructor will collaborate with UC Davis support team members to develop an online learning experience that will be delivered as the UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education academic certificate in Commercial Real Estate (CRE). This is a “work for hire” assignment focused on creating the course product. The timeframe will be established as part of the planning for development and will be agreed to by all parties. The Development/Content Instructor will be the principal subject matter expert for this offering. The primary responsibility of the Development/Content Instructor will be to
create the curricula matrix for the entire academic program and to review and provide guidance on the overall UC Davis CPE Proposal including the product types, courses, prerequisites, target market, and course design.
The Development/Content Instructor must be a highly credible, deep domain expert who can support the identification of an
Advisory Board and potentially serve on that Advisory Board.
This position is a Development/Content Instructor only with the possibility of Teaching Instructor at a future date. This role is explicitly collaborative: program design decisions, learning architecture, assessment strategy, and learner experience are developed jointly with the instructional designer, who is responsible for instructional quality, alignment with learning outcomes, and adherence to UC Davis instructional standards.
The target audience for this UC Davis CPE academic certificate is Commercial Real Estate professionals and adjacent fields seeking to switch into CRE (finance, sales, consulting, urban planning, construction, and legal).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate or related field including Urban Planning, Architecture/Engineering, Finance, Construction Management.
10 + years of applied CRE experience with emphasis in Investment/Finance, Property and Facilities Management, Development/Brokerage and CRE estate finance and/or appraisal.
Demonstrated success and expertise in the Northern California CRE markets including current and emergent state and federal regulations.
Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a structured, collaborative development process and the ability to translate technical CRE concepts into accessible learning for career changers and early career‑learners.
Proven experience collaborating with instructional designers, program managers, and cross-functional teams with high dependability of on‑time project delivery.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or Master’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Urban Development, or Public Administration.
Professional credentials such as CCIM, CPM, and RPA.
Expertise developing finance‑heavy content (NPV/IRR, underwriting, pro formas, and Argus/Excel) and operations‑oriented topics (leasing, facilities management, and tenant relations).
Proficiency with market research tools (CoStar, LoopNet, Real Capital Analytics)
Experience with developing applied, project‑based, or experiential learning initiatives in professional or workforce education contexts.
Appointment The CPE Instructor position is an exempt by‑agreement appointment. The incumbent will be hired into the UC Davis payroll title of Teacher-University Extension Contract YR and will be subject to Federal and State Income Tax Withholdings.
Compensation Compensation will be a set amount assigned based on the nature of the work, such as course development, instructional services, or coaching sessions.
Position is not eligible for UC health & welfare benefits. As a by‑agreement instructor, the employment is considered “part‑time” and will participate in the Defined Contribution Plan (the “DC Plan”) as a Safe Harbor† participant. By‑Agreement instructors are automatically enrolled in the DC Plan per their eligible appointment. Safe Harbor participants contribute 7.5% of their wages, on a pretax basis, in lieu of contributing to Social Security. Please review the
