Position Overview The Proposal Specialist is responsible for developing a project proposal and quote for sales to present to the customer. Proposals takes the detailed design and BOM provided by the design engineer and costs the BOM (Bills of Material) through collaboration with Materials group on component pricing, incorporating any provided special pricing, collaboration with Plant Manager on labor and build estimates, and collaboration with Sales on desired gross margin from costed BOM.

Reports to: Director of Engineering

Collaborates with: Materials Team, Sales Team, Engineering Team, Operations Team, Customers

Key Responsibilities Routine Work

Proposal Development: Develops a proposal document coordinating inputs from Discovery Information, Customers, Application Engineering and Sales. Manage any changes to Scope of Work and collaborate with design engineering and customers to drive change orders in a timely manner.

BOM Costing: Attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong presentation and negotiation abilities, and ability to build rapport and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.

Outside the Department

Project Management / Production: Coordination with production will be required on determining labor for larger productions.

Engineering: Coordination of application and/or design engineering for specifying components and design efforts.

Stretch / Change / Growth Tasks

Estimate and plan labor on larger projects independently.

Specify or estimate products based on projects requirements independently and accurately.

Effectively and efficiently use Microsoft software (Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and business software used by the company.

Qualifications & Experience Education

Associate degree, technical diploma, or BS in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands‑on experience.

3+ years experience quoting electrical control panels / UL panel assemblies or comparable electro‑mechanical products.

Experience

Experience working in industrial automation preferred.

Experience in any type of estimating or scoping, preferably in a technical and/or manufacturing related field.

Experience with supplier RFQs, cost normalization, and basis‑of‑estimate documentation.

Familiarity with CAD drawings, panel layout, and wiring diagrams.

Prior experience in manufacturing or panel assembly environment.
