Ursuline Academy of Dallas seeks a Director of Human Resources to start summer 2026. The Director of Human Resources will administer day-to-day HR operations and serve as a strategic partner to the senior campus administrators, leading the development and implementation of dynamic HR initiatives in a manner consistent with the Ursuline mission and core values. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role invites a visionary leader who can champion a positive organizational culture, foster staff development, and drive excellence in HR.

Founded in 1874 by the Ursuline Sisters, Ursuline Academy of Dallas is an independent Catholic, college preparatory school for young women. The mission of Ursuline Academy is the total development of the individual student through spiritual formation, intellectual growth, service to others, and building of community. Ursuline Academy educates young women for leadership in a global society.

Key Accountabilities

Advise and guide the school’s leadership team on HR policies and practices that responsively and proactively serve the needs of Ursuline Academy faculty and staff in a manner that reflects the school’s commitments to employees.

Propose and implement initiatives to enhance and strengthen HR function at the school.

Provide expertise that will help the school attract, develop, and retain talent to support Ursuline’s mission.

Ensure that policies and practices are applied consistently across departments to ensure fair treatment of all colleagues.

Provide ongoing guidance, counsel, and training to school leadership and supervisors on HR related topics including performance issues, disciplinary procedures, policy interpretation, and compliance.

Ensures Employment Policies are in alignment with Ursuline’s mission and core values and comply with all federal and local laws and accreditation requirements.

Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organization’s benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive, sustainable, compliant, and effectively communicated so employees are informed and prepared to make plan decisions.

Deliver timely updates to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities & Activities HR Administration

Ensure that colleagues are provided professional, courteous, and timely support and service.

Research and recommend updates to the school’s employment practices and handbooks, and develop written policies once adopted.

Annually review, update, and publish the Faculty and Staff Handbook and ensure acknowledgment of receipt.

Make recommendations as needed for colleagues’ safety, welfare, wellness, and health.

Supervise the Human Resources Manager.

Play an integral role in the performance review process of all faculty and staff.

Research, evaluate, and implement competitive and cost-effective payroll and benefits programs including, but not limited to the 403(b) retirement plan, medical insurance, employee leave, and workers compensation.

Develop a consistent recruiting strategy and direct the hiring process for all positions.

Work with administrators to welcome and onboard all newly hired employees.

In partnership with school leadership, manage the separation process for both voluntary and involuntary terminations, and conduct exit interviews and analyze feedback.

Manage the return of Ursuline Academy property and access rights and coordinate with Technology and Security.

Compensation and Benefits Administration

Assist with salary surveys and compensation analysis.

Collaborate with insurance broker on marketing of insurance benefits and manage open enrollment process.

Employee Relations

Act as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related concerns.

Promote a positive work culture and employee engagement.

Ensure workplace policies are followed and assist in resolving employee grievances.

Provide information to employees about retirement planning, insurance plan options, and other benefits in a clear and proactive way throughout the year, as well as during open enrollment periods.

Advise and support school and campus administrators on employee engagement and staff morale programs.

Performance Management

Support administrators in employee performance evaluations.

Provide feedback and coaching to employees and administrators on performance-related issues.

Help administrators identify and manage underperformance.

Employment Law and Compliance

Ensure that employment practices comply with all laws and that all employees are informed about labor laws.

Conduct appropriate training and develop tools and resources for Academy leadership and the entire Ursuline workforce.

Leverage advice from School’s outside legal counsel in development of policies as needed.

Identify and implement risk avoidance and mitigation strategies.

Conduct or facilitate school-wide compliance and risk management training, including EEO, workplace harassment, boundary training, workplace safety, mandatory reporting, and other areas, as needed.

Oversee administration of retirement plans, ensuring regulatory and plan document compliance. Conduct periodic reviews of retirement plan investments and coordinate implementation of approved changes with the plan administrator.

Oversee administration of FMLA, disability, and Workers’ Compensation.

Ensure that all positions have accurately written job descriptions on file, including FLSA classification of jobs.

Provide documentation required for annual financial and employee benefits audit.

Ensure seamless coordination with Business Office operations.

Record Keeping and Reporting

Maintain secure and confidential documentation for all personnel and employment-related transactions such as hires, performance reviews, and terminations.

Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of sick leave, personal days, and vacation.

Ensure compliance with I-9 verification procedures and school requirements for background checks and fingerprinting.

Ensure collection and retention of all benefit and regulatory compliance paperwork.

Position Requirements

At least 10 years of progressively responsible human resources experience

A comprehensive understanding of human resources management and best practices

Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, leadership abilities, speaking and writing skills, strong listening skills, organizational skills, and the ability to follow through

A detailed thinker with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, flexibly, and thoughtfully in a fast-paced and ambitious environment with minimal supervision

A leader with strong character and impeccable integrity with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and tact

Solid understanding of all relevant labor laws, including federal, state, and local labor, employment and wage and hour laws

Experience with legal/human resources leadership

Ability to occasionally work flexible hours to support the school
