The Opportunity MACPA is seeking a strategic and relationship‑driven leader to shape the future of the CPA profession in Maryland. As Director of Technical Services & Government Affairs, you will lead our advocacy efforts, influence policy, and serve as a key voice on legislative and regulatory issues impacting businesses and the profession.
What You’ll Do
Advocacy & Government Affairs
Lead and execute MACPA’s state and federal advocacy strategy
Monitor, analyze, and influence legislation and regulatory activity
Draft testimony, comment letters, and policy positions
Represent MACPA with legislators, regulators, and coalition partners
Partner with our legislative consultant during Maryland’s General Assembly session
Identify emerging issues and advise leadership on risks and opportunities
Member & Committee Leadership
Serve as staff liaison to key committees (State Tax, Legislative, PAC)
Facilitate meetings, set agendas, and drive follow‑through on priorities
Engage members and subject matter experts in shaping policy positions
Support governance bodies and elevate key issues
Technical & Professional Services
Respond to member inquiries on ethics and professional standards
Coordinate with AICPA and regulatory bodies on technical matters
Oversee MACPA’s Tax Community and support knowledge sharing
Maintain relationships with state tax agencies and regulators
Signature Programs & Engagement
Lead planning and execution of CPA Day in Annapolis
Support PAC strategy, fundraising, and grassroots advocacy
Develop member‑facing advocacy communications and briefings
Collaborate across teams to integrate advocacy into programs and content
Leadership & Operations
Serve as a member of the association’s leadership team, collaborating on association strategy and operations
Balance strategic priorities with day‑to‑day execution
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or advocacy
Strong understanding of Maryland’s legislative and regulatory environment
Exceptional writing, communication, and relationship‑building skills
Ability to translate complex issues into clear, actionable insights
Experience working with committees, boards, or member‑driven organizations
Knowledge of the CPA profession or related fields is a plus

Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $85,000–$115,000, commensurate with experience
