Job Description The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Portfolio Manager partners with assigned Relationship Managers to manage and grow a middle‑market commercial real estate loan portfolio primarily across the western U.S., including California. This role is responsible for underwriting credit exposure, managing portfolio risk, supporting new business opportunities, and maintaining strong client relationships through the full credit lifecycle. The position supports both new and existing relationships and collaborates closely with Credit, Loan Administration, and other internal partners.

Key Responsibilities

Underwrite and manage all types of commercial real estate credit exposure for an assigned middle‑market portfolio

Partner with Relationship Managers to support new business development, retain existing relationships, and expand customer relationships as directed by senior management

Collect borrower financial statements and coordinate spreading with internal credit support teams

Monitor loan covenants and perform quarterly trend analysis for 15–20 loans, as well as annual reviews for all loans in the portfolio

Manage active construction loans, including monthly monitoring and project updates

Assist with new money requests, including pre‑flight vetting, market analysis, and credit structuring discussions

Prepare clear, concise written credit analyses and present recommendations to credit approval partners through written and oral presentations

Collaborate with Loan Administration on loan documentation for approved and renewed credits

Participate in client outreach and joint calls as a secondary contact

Respond to prospect and customer credit questions and make independent credit calls within assigned authority

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Five to seven years of commercial banking experience

Preferred Skills And Experience

Commercial real estate lending or underwriting experience (preferred, not required)

Strong knowledge of commercial lending policy, credit quality standards, and applicable laws and regulations

Solid understanding of credit products and portfolio risk management

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Ability to work effectively across teams to manage customer relationships

Well‑developed written communication and verbal presentation skills

Using Microsoft Excel, Encino, and Copilot software; strong typing and MS Office skills are preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and MS Office

Experience using nCino and Copilot preferred

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $105,400.00 - $124,000.00
