Utility Specialist
American Water, Kokomo, IN, United States
Responsible for installing and repairing of service lines, water mains and hydrants.
Job Responsibilities Water System Work Fix and maintain water meters Install or remove meters Flush fire hydrants Investigate water leaks Help repair main water breaks
Service Orders Turn water service on or off Perform utility locates (mark underground lines before digging)
Maintenance & Records Keep accurate maintenance records Maintain equipment and tools Work with contractors when needed
Customer Service Respond to customer questions or complaints Provide meter readings for billing
You will: Operate trucks, tools, and equipment Work outside in all weather Lift 50–100 pounds occasionally Work in confined spaces (manholes, utility pits)
Knowledge/Skills Must follow safety procedures Must comply with Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) regulations After 1 year, you will be on-call every 8–10 weeks for emergency work (1 week at a time)
Experience/Education A minimum of a high school diploma or GED Water and/or wastewater certification(s) a plus
