Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Director of Curriculum & Instruction Primary Purpose Provide leadership, direction, and coordination for the district's curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning systems. Ensure alignment of curriculum and instructional practices with state standards, district goals, and accountability expectations. Support campuses in delivering high-quality instruction while developing systems that improve student achievement and College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) outcomes across Brazos ISD.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the development, alignment, and continuous improvement of district curriculum aligned to TEKS

Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment across grade levels and content areas

Facilitate curriculum review cycles using student performance data

Support campuses in implementing effective instructional frameworks and pacing guides

Oversee development and maintenance of district curriculum documents and resources

Instructional Leadership & Campus Support

Provide guidance and support to campus administrators to strengthen instructional practices

Promote research-based instructional strategies and best practices

Support instructional coaching systems and campus-level implementation

Assist campuses in analyzing instructional effectiveness and implementing improvements

Assessment, Accountability & CCMR

Oversee development and implementation of district assessment systems

Support analysis of local and state assessment data (STAAR, EOC, TELPAS)

Monitor district and campus accountability performance, including CCMR indicators

Collaborate with campus leaders, counselors, and CTE staff to improve CCMR outcomes

Develop systems to track student progress toward college, career, and military readiness

Professional Learning & Staff Development

Design and coordinate district-wide professional development aligned to instructional priorities

Oversee mentor and new teacher induction programs, including training, support structures, and evaluation of effectiveness

Support leadership development for teachers, instructional coaches, and campus leaders

Evaluate impact of professional learning on instructional practices and student outcomes

Instructional Programs & Student Support

Oversee district instructional programs including intervention, advanced academics, and CTE

Collaborate with campus and district teams to support at-risk student programs

Support development of systems that improve student achievement and engagement

Assist with curriculum and instructional planning for summer school programs

Instructional Materials & Textbook Adoption

Coordinate and oversee the selection, adoption, and implementation of instructional materials and textbooks

Ensure alignment of materials to TEKS and district instructional priorities

Facilitate committees and stakeholder input during adoption cycles

Provide training and support for effective use of instructional materials

Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and district leadership team on strategic planning

Support principals in aligning campus instructional practices with district goals

Collaborate across departments to ensure cohesive instructional systems

Participate in district improvement initiatives and long‑range planning

Budget & Resource Management

Develop and manage budgets related to curriculum, instruction, and professional learning

Allocate resources based on program needs and district priorities

Provide cost estimates and recommendations for instructional initiatives

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

Communicate curriculum and instructional initiatives to staff, parents, and community

Present information to the Board of Trustees and district leadership

Facilitate two‑way communication with campuses and stakeholders

Promote district instructional vision and goals

Compliance & Program Oversight

Ensure curriculum and instructional programs meet state, federal, and district requirements

Stay current on changes in TEKS, accountability systems, and instructional mandates

Maintain accurate records and required reports related to curriculum and instruction

Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, scanner, copy machine, fax machine, telephone.

Work Schedule Twelve months per year (226‑230 days)

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office building environments.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field

Valid Texas Principal or Mid‑Management Certification

Valid Texas Teaching Certification

Minimum of five years successful classroom experience

Demonstrated success in instructional leadership at the campus or district level

Experience in curriculum development, professional learning, and instructional systems

Knowledge of state accountability systems, including CCMR indicators

Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills
