About the role As Corporate Director of Community Development, you will be part of a large and high‑performing council, leading the landlord services with over 8,500 council homes. You will deliver frontline housing management, tenant involvement, sheltered housing, repairs and maintenance, compliance, and asset management, while driving strategic initiatives such as decarbonisation, new house building, and rural housing initiatives.
Key priorities
Prevent homelessness, grow affordable supply, improve stock quality and energy performance.
Strengthen and modernise the service in line with evolving regulatory expectations.
Drive cultural and operational change across a diverse workforce.
Collaborate with council colleagues, regional partners, and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority on new powers and investment opportunities.
Responsibilities
Lead the housing service and oversee frontline operations.
Implement strategic plans to expand affordable housing and improve existing stock.
Ensure compliance with national regulatory standards.
Drive improvements that directly benefit residents.
Represent the council in external partnerships and collaborations.
Requirements
Strategic, resilient, and forward‑thinking leader with experience in landlord services.
Ability to navigate regulatory expectations and inspire a diverse workforce.
Politically astute, collaborative, and able to “hit the ground running.”
