The Director of Property Claims provides leadership for all U.S. Commercial Property Claims operations, including daily claims handling and catastrophe (CAT) response. This role is accountable for claim outcomes, operational performance, regulatory compliance, and customer experience across multiple commercial segments and industries. The leader drives consistent technical excellence, financial discipline, scalable CAT readiness, and modernization of property claims capabilities nationwide. This position plays a critical role in protecting the organization's financial results, reputation, and client relationships in an increasingly complex risk and catastrophe environment. Key Responsibilities Enterprise Leadership & Strategy Set and execute the national strategy for Commercial Property Claims, aligned with corporate, underwriting, and financial objectives. Lead and develop a large, geographically distributed organization handling complex commercial property losses. Act as a senior advisor to executive leadership on property loss trends, CAT exposure, and portfolio performance. Champion innovation, automation, and analytics to improve claim quality, speed, and cost effectiveness. Claims Operations & Financial Performance Own end-to-end performance of Commercial Property Claims, including: Loss ratio and severity Indemnity and expense management Cycle time and claim quality Leakage reduction and recovery optimization Establish consistent national standards for coverage interpretation, reserving, estimating, large-loss handling, litigation management, subrogation, and fraud mitigation. Oversee complex and high-severity claims, including layered programs, shared/complex risk structures, and manuscript policies. Catastrophe (CAT) Leadership Lead enterprise CAT preparedness and response for weather-driven and large-scale loss events across the U.S. Ensure scalable staffing, deployment, vendor capacity, and surge models are in place and tested. Direct post-event reviews to improve operational readiness, cost controls, and customer outcomes. Partner with Reinsurance, Risk, and Actuarial on CAT exposure insights and post-event financial analysis. Client, Broker & Partner Engagement Serve as a senior claims representative for key commercial clients, brokers, and risk managers. Support retention and growth by demonstrating strong claims execution and responsiveness. Partner with Vendor Management to optimize relationships with adjusters, engineers, consultants, and restoration partners. Governance, Risk & Compliance Ensure compliance with all state insurance regulations, market conduct requirements, and internal control standards. Lead responses to regulatory exams, audits, and claim-related inquiries. Proactively identify and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks within Commercial Property Claims. Talent & Organizational Development Build and sustain a high-performing leadership team with strong succession plans. Develop technical depth in commercial property expertise, large-loss handling, and CAT leadership. Foster a culture of accountability, ethical decision-making, continuous improvement, and inclusion. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 15+ years of progressive experience in Commercial Property Claims within P&C insurance. Significant leadership experience managing nationwide claims operations. Deep expertise in commercial property coverages, complex loss structures, CAT claims, and litigation management. Proven ability to manage large P&L accountability and lead through high-severity events. Preferred Experience at a national or super-regional commercial carrier. Strong familiarity with modern claims platforms, data analytics, and automation tools. Professional designations such as CPCU, AIC, SCLA, or equivalent. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only.
