Lead Carpenter – About The Opportunity Chelsea Piers is hiring a Lead Carpenter for our technical maintenance team. The role leads a team of carpenters performing new builds, renovations, and maintenance across the Chelsea Piers property. This role reports to the Site Operations Manager, with the primary work location at our flagship Chelsea site and occasional work at other NYC facilities. It is a working lead role, not strictly supervisory.

Responsibilities

Manage and facilitate extensive maintenance and project task lists.

Oversee general maintenance of facility.

Coordinate with Site Operations Manager for special projects on a daily basis.

Supervise skilled carpenters and general maintenance employees; schedule required work to achieve timely and efficient completion.

Maintain cleanliness of shop and proper functioning of all equipment and tools.

Ensure all employees work safely, wearing and using all required safety gear, harnesses, and eye protection.

Communicate and report any incidents or problems that arise during work assignments.

Plan and order materials for efficient completion of work assignments.

Conduct daily inspections of site and prepare work repair lists submitted to Site Operations Manager.

Qualifications You have at least

10 years

of experience in maintenance or construction environments. You also have:

Valid NYS driver’s license.

OSHA‑10 and OSHA‑30 certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Certification for ladder, scissor lift, and scaffolding safety (or willingness to obtain).

Flexible availability, including occasional holidays, weekends, and overnight work.

Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

General hours are 7 am–3 pm; nights, weekends, and holidays may be required.
