Recreation Leader
WE ARE CURRENTLY HIRING FOR TWO OPENINGS. PART-TIME/RANK & FILE FLSA: NON-EXEMPT SUMMARY: Under general supervision, leads, supports, and facilitates recreation programming, activities and events. Implements and runs multiple programs for citizens of varying ages and abilities. Acts as the on-site in charge person front desk person at a recreation facility. This is the multi-level position with the Recreation Leader series of jobs. This class is distinguished from other Recreation Leaders in that they lead a wide range of general recreation programs and services. Incumbents lead recreation activities and communicate with the public. These are highly responsible paraprofessional positions & require prior experience in recreation and provide direction to other Recreation Leader I. EXAMPLES OF REGULAR DUTIES: Include the following. Leads and provides oversight, instruction, and support for multiple recreational activities provided through the department; assists, coordinates, and facilitates sports, recreation programming, music, dance, arts, and crafts. Serves as a lead for front desk operations, frontline communicator greeting the public, handles phone calls, makes identification cards, and providing information regarding recreation programming and services. Coaches, officiates, and keeps score at sports contests; ensures safety of all participants, monitors security of equipment, and provides maintenance and support as needed. Creates, revises, updates, and prints material specific to the recreation facility; assists with rental request for the facility, schedules meeting rooms, and maintains facility calendar. Prepares, drafts, and creates promotional materials such as flyers and posters, and may take photographs of programs and events. Assists in City wide events as assigned; supports a wide range of programs and services requiring a variety of skills and functions. Maintains complete, accurate, and timely records; assists with developing schedules, prepares simple reports and provides information on program effectiveness. Checks equipment in and out and verifies proper identification; receives monies for facilities rentals, counts and logs money, and issues receipts. Assists with the review of facility rental contracts. Prepares athletic fields; inspects, checks, and maintains equipment. Plans, organizes, conducts events, and may operate two-way radio. Coaches, teaches, and instructs participants in the assigned sport or activity. May operate various city vehicles, tracks mileage, and checks to ensure all facilities and parks are functional and maintained. Assists, guides, and trains Recreation Leader I. Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - A combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. High School Diploma or GED required, Associate's Degree preferred two (2) years of experience in recreation programming and leadership. CPR and First Aid certificate. Knowledge of: Principles and practices recreation. Sports or skilled activities assigned. Principles of facility rental and scheduling. Cashiering and simple bookkeeping. Department Rules and Regulations. Ability to: Provide leadership in facility and program operations, scheduling and rental. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Maintain effective working relationships with other people. Lead the work of Recreation Leaders I. Maintain complete, accurate and timely financial records for facility use. Operate Microsoft Office, computing systems, and mobile devices.
