Recreation Leader III

The Parks and Recreation Department oversees Parks and Programs, REACH, Senior Services, Contract Classes, Media and Communications, Special Events, Transportation, and the Pico Rivera Golf Course. The amenities provided by the Parks and Recreation Department are enjoyed by thousands of people every year. The amenities include 100 acres of parks and open spaces, swimming pool, athletic fields, walking paths, Senior Center, and batting cages. Under direction, the Recreation Leader III is responsible for projects of the Recreation department including, but not limited to, senior and youth programs, sports, facility rentals, contract classes and special events, as well as supporting other critical administrative needs of the Department. City Hall is open Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The work schedule for this position will vary. The schedule for this position will be any combination of days between Monday through Sunday, beginning at 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM (schedule may change based on the needs of the department). This position may also be required to work non-traditional shift/hours including Friday through Sunday, nights, early mornings, holidays, special events and various evening and weekend dates. Essential Duties
The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform the following essential tasks and duties: May be tasks with a leadership role in planning of city-wide Special Events that may include: Development of event logistical maps, entertainment bookings, equipment rental, securing facilities, prepare General Service Agreements. May be tasks with a leadership role during city wide Special Events. Direct oversight of hourly Staff, vendors, entertainment, contractors, and volunteers. Assist with the coordinating and leading loading, unloading, and transportation of equipment and supplies prior to event Assist with the coordinating and leading set up and breakdown of special events and facility rentals Assist with inventory of special event equipment and organizing of storage rooms/containers May serve as on-site lead during special events to ensure smooth operations, resolve issues, and provide excellent customer service. Foster positive community relations by working with local organizations, businesses, and stakeholders to support events and sponsorships. Help oversee and coordinate Facility Reservations which includes: Rental inputting, management of rental calendar, prepare rental invoices and permits, staff rental schedules, and facility usage reports. Assist with oversight of Contract Classes and Contract Instructors that may include: Program entry in MyRecsoftware, manage program calendar, direct oversight of programs and contract instructors. Assist senior staff with written reports, press releases, and special projects. Interpret, explain and enforce departmental policies, enforce safety rules, and provide quality customer service. Assist with oversight of Community Sports Organizations (CSO) and other user groups including scheduling and overseeing of field reservations. Ensure safe and orderly environment for program staff and patrons during program operation. Respond to participant parents and general public with concerns about programs and services. May assist with the development of Facility Staff Schedules, lead and direct hourly Recreation Staff, Public Works Staff, contract instructors, and volunteers. Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with peers (including peers in other city departments), the public, participant parents, contractors, instructors, vendors, and community organizations. Help onboard new team members that may include: hands on training of MyRec software and facility procedures/operations. Development and review of training materials such as presentations and handouts. Enforce departmental policies governing public safety and quality service. Promotes safety and administers first aid as needed. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Additionally, candidates: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be available to work varied shifts including nights, early mornings, weekends, and/or holidays. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Must display a commitment to the recreation profession. Must be flexible to assist in all department program areas. Ability to understand community values, traditions, hierarchy structures and roles. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of personal computer, calculator and other office machines necessary to carry out assigned duties. Knowledge of the activities, facilities, arrangements, resources, and equipment common to modern recreation programs. Display good customer services skills. Ability to speak Spanish is desired. Applicant must possess a high school diploma or G. E. D. equivalent. Course work in college desired. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of recreation experience working with the public. The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Acute hearing is also required in providing customer service to public and/or assistance in facility, classroom, or outdoors. Will also be working in outdoor area and may be exposed to loud noises and extreme weather conditions. Licenses and Certifications
A valid Class C California Driver's License and a safe driving record throughout the course of employment. City employees are registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Employee Pull Notice Program. Proof of car insurance (to be eligible for mileage reimbursement based on the IRS issued rates). Within 30 days of hire, candidates must obtain and maintain throughout the course of employment certification in Infant/Child/Adult CPR, Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Community First Aid and Safety from a nationally accredited organization, such as the American Heart Association (AHA), the American Red Cross (ARC) and the Health and Safety Institute (HSI). and must maintain (Online certifications will be accepted; skills test / hands-on training must be completed after online portion). Veteran's credit will amount to 10 points to be added to the interview score. Proof of honorable discharge must be submitted with the application materials in order to be eligible for veteran's credit.
