Buyer Trainee (Sales) Scrap Recycling
Our family-owned scrap recycling company is seeking a Buyer Trainee to join our team. This is a hands-on, paid training position designed for someone interested in a long-term career in sales and commodities. The Buyer Trainee will spend approximately one year rotating through all areas of our operations, gaining a full understanding of how scrap material moves through our businessfrom scale and processing to logistics, pricing, and customer relationships. This training ensures you are fully prepared to succeed as a Buyer, responsible for purchasing scrap material and building strong supplier partnerships. We offer a great, family friendly first shift, Monday through Friday schedule, great wages and a complete benefit package. During your training year, you will gain exposure to: Yard and scale operations (material identification, grading, and pricing) Processing and shipping of scrap materials Transportation and logistics Accounting and settlements Safety, environmental, and quality systems Sales and purchasing fundamentals Supplier and customer relationship management This comprehensive approach helps you understand the entire lifecycle of the material you will ultimately be responsible for buying. Key responsibilities (after training progression) include: Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers Understand market trends and pricing Work closely with operations to align purchasing decisions Represent the company professionally in the marketplace What we're looking for includes: Strong interest in sales, business, or commodities Willingness to learn and work in a hands-on industrial environment Good communication and relationship-building skills Strong work ethic and attention to detail Ability to rotate through multiple departments No scrap industry experience requiredwe will train the right candidate. Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness. Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds at a time. Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs, and moving the entire body. This will include balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to the elements of the environment: hot and cold, smells and noises unique to the plant.
