Director of Youth Ministry Job Summary
The Director of Youth Ministry at First United Methodist Church of Eufaula, Alabama, will bless the youth of our community. They will guide and nurture the church’s mission and vision for ministry with youth and their families.
Spiritual Requirements
Professes Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
Commitment to personal spiritual growth and a healthy lifestyle
Wesleyan theology background preferred
Qualifications
S/he should have strong people skills, organizational skills, and leadership skills, be a good motivator, be supportive and nurturing, and be able to recruit and mentor other laypersons that they may serve God more effectively. S/he should promote the mission of FUMC – Eufaula to be and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our church, community, and world.
Responsibilities
Create a safe environment for youth to experience the love of God and build relationships with others
Support parents in the spiritual formation of their youth and help them connect with the larger congregation
Develop existing educational and worship programs: eg. Sunday School, Youth Group (MYF), Confirmation, Vacation Bible School (in summer), and guide the development of new educational programs
Guide the selection of developmentally appropriate curriculum
Develop existing fellowship programs: Youth Group (weekly), Souper-Bowl Youth Fundraiser (Feb), and guide the development of new fellowship programs
Organize youth summer mission trip
Develop service and mission experiences for youth and families throughout the year
Make daily ministry and administrative decisions regarding youth ministry
Work with staff to communicate and coordinate youth ministry with larger church ministry
Implement the recruiting and training of youth ministry volunteer teams
Manage all social media accounts for youth ministries as well as assist the church with their social media
Create and work with a Youth Ministry Council and report updates quarterly to the Church Council
Ensure all Safe Sanctuaries guidelines are followed
Oversee the budget process and expenditures related to youth ministry
Participate in continuing education and training programs (annually) in consultation with the lead pastor and/or Youth Ministry Council
Attend and invest in youth activities outside of the church: eg. visits to schools, school activities, recreational and community activities
Build connections with the local community for mission and outreach
Care for members (youth) who are in need or who have not attended church regularly
Make hospital and funeral visits as needed, especially when related to youth
Engage in additional duties as needed or directed by lead pastor
Additional Information
Hours: 30-35 hours per week, including Sunday mornings
Starting Base Compensation: $35,000 / year + $500 for continuing education (salary can be revisited based on experience and education)
This position will be eligible for annual leave, sick leave, personal leave, and holidays as outlined in the Personnel Policy Handbook of First United Methodist Church – Eufaula.
Per the Personnel Policy Handbook of First United Methodist Church – Eufaula, this position will begin with a 90 day probationary period followed by a review, and a job performance review annually.
Willing/able to relocate to Eufaula, Alabama, if necessary
