Community Relations Worker III (Parent Involvement)

Job Summary Serve as a liaison between district, parents, and the community to promote, develop, organize, implement, and develop relations necessary to the growth and success of students and the community that advance the District's mission and goals to serve the students and community. Bilingual positions in this classification require fluency in a second language.

Responsibilities

Provides support and maintenance of community relations to School Site Councils, School Advisory Councils, English Learners Advisory Boards and other related organizations.

Responsible for monitoring the activities of Parent Advisory Councils and/or activities in the Family Engagement Center.

Coordinates and schedules staff, volunteers, and calendars.

Serve as a liaison between parents, school and the community to assist in fostering a climate of parent engagement, leadership and education.

Assist schools with the implementation of successful and effective parent involvement programs and policies that lead to improvements in student academic achievement.

Facilitate and coordinate the establishment and meetings of Parent Advisory Councils at school sites.

Train school personnel and parents regarding Parent Advisory Council policies, procedures and strategies.

May monitor school site reporting of attendance, agendas and minutes.

Assist in planning, organizing and coordinating parent and family involvement activities; develop, conduct and evaluate trainings, presentations and workshops based on community needs.

Develop and maintain community partnerships to assist in providing resources and services to parents and families.

Research potential resources and partnerships.

Refer parents to appropriate community resources and public assistance agencies.

Provide information to parents and families regarding school or District programs, resources, procedures, rules and regulations.

Disseminate information related to District parent and family activities; design flyers, brochures and handouts; update calendars, social media and school websites to increase awareness of family engagement services, events and activities.

Assists with organizing and coordinating community and district special events; compile and distribute community information to families at community-wide events.

Attends a variety of meetings, workshops, committees, training sessions and conferences regarding family engagement and student achievement.

Maintain a log of activities and update files and records related to parent, family, and community involvement.

Conducts home visits to explain district and site programs to parents and families.

May provide oral and written translation and interpretative services.

May conduct home visits.

Uses personal transportation for incidental district travel.

Performs job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Three (3) years of fulltime paid experience working with adults in a volunteer or community services program. AND High school graduation or the equivalent.

Two (2) years of fulltime paid experience working with adults in a volunteer or community services program and an Associates' degree in social science or closely related field.

Licenses & Certificates

Appropriate, valid California driver license and auto liability insurance.

Employees in this classification are responsible for renewing these documents to ensure their validity throughout employment.

Examination

Written Examination. WEIGHT: 100%

Bilingual Certification. WEIGHT: Pass/Fail. This certification is required for bilingual positions in the class.

Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.

Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.

Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.

This eligibility list will be active for a period of 1 year.
